The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy; including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. 4
Organisering Hovedkvarter i Abu Dhabi Innovasjons- og Teknologisenter i Bonn - totalt ca 80 ansatte Assembly (årlig) er høyeste organ, samt et Council (21 medlemmer, velges for 2 år) Budsjett 2016 og 2017 er på 30,7 mill USD pr år, hvorav 21,4 mill skal komme fra medlemsbidrag iht. FN-skalaen. Norges bidrag ca USD 206 000. Frivillige bidrag (penger og in-kind) viktig del av totalbudsjettet og aktivitetsnivået 5
