Life span study
Life Span Study Report 13 Studies of mortality of atomic bomb survivors. Report 13: Solid cancer and noncancer disease mortality: 1950-1997 Preston DL, Shimizu Y, Pierce DA, Suyama A, Mabuchi K Radiat Res 160(4):381-407, 2003 Summary This continues the series of general reports on mortality in the cohort of atomic bomb survivors followed up by the Radiation Effects Research Foundation. This cohort includes 86,572 people with individual dose estimates, 60% of whom have doses of at least 5 msv. We estimate that about 440 (5%) of the solid cancer deaths and 250 (0.8%) of the noncancer deaths were associated with the radiation exposure. The excess solid cancer risks appear to be linear in dose even for doses in the 0 to 150-mSv range

Annex A Biological and epidemiological information on health risk attributable to ionising radiation Representerer en oppsummering (state of the art) vedrørende helseeffekter (vevskader, cancer, arveskader, non-cancer disease, etc.) Baserer seg i stor grad på UNSCEAR-rapportene.
Fra Annex A
Arveskader UNSCEAR 2001 In this 2001 Report, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation has completed a comprehensive review of the hereditary risks to offspring following parental exposure to radiation. This report includes an evaluation of those diseases, which have both hereditary and environmental components, the so-called multifactorial diseases. The new information presented in this report suggests that radiation is less likely to have adverse genetic effects than had been assumed. This report provides a unique scientific basis for estimating radiation risk, establishing radiation protection and safety standards and regulating radiation sources for governments and organizations throughout the world.
Unscear 2001- Summary and conclusion
Mortality and Cancer Risks for Radiation Workers 7 January 2009 The risk of developing cancer among radiation workers increases with the dose of ionising radiation they are exposed to, according to a study by the Health Protection Agency published today in the British Journal of Cancer *. The observed cancer risks are consistent with the international scientific consensus on radiation protection.
The study also shows that overall mortality in the UK's 175,000 radiation workers is lower than that in the general population. This "healthy worker effect" has been observed in studies of many other occupational groups. This study provides the most precise estimates to date of mortality and cancer risks following occupational radiation exposure and strengthens the scientific evidence for raised risks from these exposures. The cancer risk estimates are consistent with international radiation protection standards, both for leukaemia and for all other cancers combined
5. To study the possible impact of radiation exposure on health whilst minimising the impact of the HWE, rates of mortality and cancer incidence within the NRRW were analysed according to workers' radiation dose, which was assessed through personal monitoring. Estimates of the trend in risk with dose were similar to those for the Japanese atomic bomb survivors, with confidence ranges that excluded risks more than 2-3 times greater than the A-bomb values and also excluded the possibility of no raised risk.
Oppsummering - Helseeffekter Akutte stråleskader ved doser over 1 Sv, terskelverdi. Risiko for cancer (mortalitet) : 5 % per Sv Risiko for genetiske skader: 2 pr. Sv
ICRP 103 - Non-cancer diseases
ICRP 103 - Embryo Severe mental retardation, 8-15 weeks, threshold of 300 mgy. IQ-reduction. No effect of clinical significance below 100 mgy, i.e. consistent with ICRP-60. Malformation: Absence of risk for induced malformations below 100 mgy. Doses below 100mGy to the developing organism should not be considered a reason for terminating a pregnancy.
