2 ganger i året.
Health Damage Costs and Risk Perception of Radon, UV and Combined Exposure Partners RA4: HH-UMB (Lead: Ståle, Eirik, Olvar, Knut Einar), NRPA (Lill Tove, Christina), FHI (Gunnar), UMB (Yevgeniya), NIVA (Isabel) Relevance for other RAs: RA1, RA3 and RA5 Aim and description: Apply the Damage Function Approach (DFA) to: i) map and model the UV and Radon indoor exposure of Norwegian households ii) assess health risks from exposure response functions and consider the contribution of exposure to overall health burden iii) assess health damage costs through surveys of: a) individuals perceived health risk, b) averting behavior, and c) willingness-to-pay (WTP) to avoid the disutility of long term health impacts (lung cancer and skin cancer) = Social benefits of mitigation Time frame: 2014-2017 (2014: Initial assesment of step i) and ii), and pilot testing/surveys of step iii)) Radon and UV separately, and for the combined effect (multi-stressor) Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA) of mitigating measures Provide policy advice
Predictive risk assessment of multiple stressors Lead partner: NIVA (K. Petersen, NIVA post doc, KE. Tollefsen) Contact person: Karina P. (kpe@niva.no). Potential collaborative partners: UMB, FHI, NVH, NRPA Relevance for other RAs: RA1, RA2, RA3, RA5 Bakgrunn Organismer utsettes for flere ulike typer stressorer (IR, UV, miljøgifter, temp..)
Stakeholder dialogues linked to Aquaculture and Sellafield Scenario Lead partner: Y. Tomkiv (UMB), Deborah Oughton (UMB) Contact person: yevgeniya.tomkiv@umb.no CERAD partners: NRPA PhD, NIVA, IPM-HH Timescale: 2014 beginning of 2015 Objective: Hold 2 stakeholder meetings to address the societal, economic, environmental, ethical and risk communication aspects of the scenario. Background: The contamination of seafood has been a main focus of the Fukushima accident, with countries issuing restrictions on food imports even without evidence of contamination => an important issue for Norway where fish is a major export product Public perception of radiation risk can have major economic impacts on consumer trust => number of important societal aspects that should be addressed within the scenario
Stakeholder dialogues cont d Method: Stakeholder dialogues are internationally recognized as an important part of emergency preparedness. As well as being a form of communication and dissemination, stakeholder dialogues can provide important information on uncertainties, especially linked to communicating uncertainty following an accident Participants: Representatives of local communities, fisheries, industry, national and regional authorities (Food Safety Authority, Export Council etc.). A range of experts with relevant expertise will be invited to contribute to the discussion, including social scientists and philosophers.
Extrapolating effects from the individual to population level Lead partner: NIVA (J. Moe, NIVA postdoc, KE. Tollefsen) Contact person: J. Moe(jmo@niva.no) Potential collaborative partners: UMB, FHI, NVH, NRPA Relevance for other RAs: RA3, RA5 Model species: Selection will depend on experimental activities in RA3 and RA5 Potential candidates: Alga (C. reinhardtii), Zooplankton (D. magna), Aquatic plants (L. minor), Nematodes (C. elegans), fish (D. rerio). Research questions: What information is available on effects of ionising radiation and UV radiation on key demographic rates (survival and reproduction), and on other endpoints potentially affecting these demographic rates? Which population models are available for the test species and relevant for risk assessment within CERAD? How can effects of radiation on demographic rates integrate to effects on population growth and other population-level endpoints? Assess model uncertainty using simulation exercises and data generated by the post doc (C. reinhardtii and D. magna) Support studies with other relevant organisms & endpoints in CERAD
