The Future of Academic Libraries the Road Ahead Roy Gundersen
Background Discussions on the modernization of BIBSYS Project spring 2007: Forprosjekt modernisering Process analysis Specification Market analysis Cost analysis Recommendation
What did we learn from this project? Modernizing is not our current products with changed technology We must base the development on the new needs of the HE-sector The new BIBSYS products must be a joint project with the institutions / libraries Take into account the changing information behaviour, the Googlegeneration
BIBSYS should use: Open system architecture based on international standards Flexible solutions for data model and data base management Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Agile methods
A combination of In-house development Commercial software Open source software (Guided by a cost/benefit analysis)
Co-operation Perform a demand analysis in close cooperation with the BIBSYS institutions Based on their strategies, visions and priorities
Working group for the demand analysis Members: Leader (1) Large universities (4) Small universities, academic colleges (2) The National Library (1) BIBSYS will contribute with expert help and secretarial work Report finished by September 1st
Lage en prioritert liste over fremtidige, overordnete, behov.
This seminar The starting point for further work What happens in the other Nordic countries? Interesting things from other parts of Europe UK Joint administrative systems in Norway
Language The seminar will be in English Which anyway is often used in Nordic co-operation Since we today have a participant from UK But the audience may ask questions in Norwegian
Presentations Will be made available after the meeting
