PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION The Bachelor in Nursing consists of 180 ECTS, divided into four main areas of study. Clinical studies and prepatory courses for clinical practice comprise 90 ECTS. The national curriculum for nursing education stipulates that 150 ECTS must be allocated to nursing-specific studies, while 30 ECTS remain common for all health fields. Students are expected to study approximately 40 hours per week. The study workload incorporates active participation in teaching, groupwork, clinical studies, independent study and supervision. The primary goal of nursing studies is the education of knowledgable, independent and responsible nurses, who possess the willingness and ability to carry out their duties consciously and reflectively. Nursing, caring, prevention and treatment form the cornerstones of the nursing profession. Students learn to provide care to the sick on the basis of experience, and using their knowledge of pathophysiology, diagnostics and treatment of each specific condition. Promotion of health and wellbeing, and prevention of illness, demands knowledge about the relationships between health and illness viewed from individual, cultural and societal perspectives. Students will acquire the expertise to provide care in real situations. The practice of nursing is based on moral, relational and practical expertise. Students learn to utilise their knowledge, experiences, skills and ethical values in nursing practice. The goal is to develop this practical knowledge by combing clinical experience, updated research-based knowledge, user input and participation. Organisation of practice placement: Nursing students complete their practice periods in different regions. ASSESSMENT METHODS The goal of student assessment is to stimulate and encourage professional and personal development. Student assessment is an integrated part of the learning process and ensures close student monitoring through continual feedback. Student assessment in Bachelor studies is both summative and formative. The following methods for summative examinations are used: Home exam (individual and group), individual school exam and individual assessment/evaluation of clinical practice studies. Examination and evaluation methods are described in each course description. Formative assessment, or evaluation, gives the student periodical feedback on the learning process. Self-evaluation and teacher and student responses are vital parts of the formative assessment. In clinical studies, preceptor nurses from the clinical area of practice are present and contribute to the formative evaluation. EXAMINATION REGULATIONS, ASSESSMENT AND GRADING The Norwegian system for grading and assessment using the letter grades A - F, in which A denotes the best/highest grade and F denotes "not passed". Work can also be assessed as "passed", "not passed", "approved" and "not approved". Refer to applicable legislation, rules and regulations QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS Refer to applicable legislation, regulations and related guidelines Suitability assessment and authorisation: Assessment of candidates' suitability occurs throughout the study period, in accordance with the Act relating to universities and university colleges 4-10. Award of a diploma for a completed degree presupposes that the candidate has been assessed as suitable for the occupation. If a candidate is assessed as not suitable, the insitution may exclude them from the study programme. The Health Personnel Act of 2. juli 1999 nr. 64 adresses authorisation of health services personnel. The aim of such authorisation is to give patients the confidence that the care provider has the necessary expertise to provide such professional assistance. In Norway, it is The Norwegian Registration Authority for Health Personnel (SAK) the processes applications for authorisation. COSTS Semester registration fee and course literature, in addition to travel and accomodation costs relating to practice periods. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The Bachelor thesis constitutes the final examination for the study programme.
