What do you do when all low hanging fruits are gone?
Sette kursen (2013) In Årdal we have achieved 197 USD/mt cost reduction Low hanging fruits taken the road ahead- 2013 But our challenges now require a different approach Quality in our AMBS work Continuous improvement culture Sustainable improvement work Clear and changed philosophy Link the tools to philosophy 10
1g/mnd Enhet i sine respektive områder. 4g/År Fabrikkledelse. Årlig Oppfølging av KPIèr pr. mnd. Hele AAM sertifisert innen 31.12 2016 (11)
Operatørvedlikehold: Holde standarden Operatørvedlikehold Kartlagt alle system ved fabrikken Etablert lik standard -> Pilot ved Logistikk Kai Standardisert hele fabrikken (12)
OEE Redusere tap Hvorfor?

% A3 Støpetemperatur Results of the improvements Improved routines and operator competence Reduced bleed out frequency and temperature related scrap Improved quality regarding to surface and geometry, which has been confirmed by customer evaluations 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Temperature related scrap Week Current situation and future potential for the unit Situation in January 2016; Casting scrap related to temperature was high Very systematic approach to improve temperature control and temperature related scrap Lojalty to the improvement program Temperature related scrap reduced fram jan may Hit rate temperature (SPC) has also been used inn collaboration with temperature related scrap to improve eachother Potential for further improvements; Human variations connected to rigging and start of cast will be removed with the new AFM technology, but temperature will continue to be a key factor. The improvement work with temperature is being extended to earlier process steps the alloying phase in the furnaces. This will improve LPG consumption and improve hit rate on chemical analysis Challenge for the unit Background Tya has been facing a massive change in the product portfolio, moving from a major share of low alloyed standard products to mostly highly alloyed products and advanced bright finish products. The new portfolio demanded a higher degree of accuracy on temperature control. Hot top casting of highly alloyed products as 3XXX, 5XXX and especially 6XXX requires close to perfect hit on recipe temperature to avoid surface defect, cracks and bleed outs. Casting of high purity bright finish products is very sensitive to temperature to ensure correct microstructure properties. Challenges Standard products do not require the accuracy on temperature There were no systematic approach to improve temperature control in the casthouse. (19) Actions taken Following actions are taken New organization of roles to optimize the new way of working Competence building for operators, technical supervisors and leaders in cooperation with RTD and customers The casting process has been analysed Clever measurable leading indicators have been defined (as temperature related scrap and Hit rate temperature ) Leading indicators (temperature related scrap) followed up with SPC every week The hit rates are now part of a new production philosophy and allow for direct communication with operators This has created a great enthusiasm on operator level as it is so evident that casting capability has increased so much The following methods are used in improvement programs 5xWhy root cause analysis Improvement Groups for Critical Processes have used A3 to scope their work The Process Approach to define leading indicators SPC to follow up the indicators SOP WOC Buddycheck and quality check lists
