Background The Joint Political Committe (fellesnemnda) for new Asker municipality decided, exactly one year ago, that the UN SDGs are to be implemented in municipal planning and incorporated as a framework for the new municipal master plan. The Joint Political Committee is also the executive municipal planning committee. In addition, three working groups have been created: UN SDGs Social/community development Service development The formal process on developing a framework and methodology for localising the SDGs in new Asker began on August 16th 2017 with a joint meeting between the three working groups and the joint political committee The purpose of this meeting was to establish a common political standpoint and to develop a common understanding of the UN SDGs and how they can be approached locally in the context of municipal planning
The Municipal Master Plan (Kommuneplanen) what is it? The Municipal Master Plan is the overarching document giving guidelines for the development of new Asker It shall provide direction for the longterm development the municipality, and will therefore be of relevance for everyone living and working in new Asker. New Asker will be a part of the solution- we acknowledge the need of urgency

The SDGs as a municipal framework Applicable; it becomes easier to set clear and ambitious golas in the municipal planning, pride in pioneering Examples from other countries; from ICLEI, UCLG and German region Complexity; large and complex Global goals local measures, must be made tangible and manageable at the local level, contribute to specific local goals and actions An expressed desire within the working groups to apply the global goals to exercise an active political work locally. The goals must set the framework and expectations for the direction of new Asker up until 2030 and beyond.
