7 STYRKEPRØVEN FOREWORD Dear participant, Oslo, 6 June 2017 Welcome to the 51st edition of Styrkeprøven, Norway s oldest and largest cycle road race. We are very pleased and proud to welcome more than 35 different nationalities this year to the start line at our five start locations: Trondheim, Kvam, Lillehammer, Gjøvik and Eidsvoll. We have seen a particular increase in interest in the Trondheim Oslo distance, which has so far attracted 25% more riders than in 2016, which is great news. Arne Blakkisrud from Ullensaker CK is riding in his 50th consecutive Trondheim Oslo this year. Accompanying Arne from Trondheim are 65 friends riding as a group who will be setting off for Oslo from Stiftsstaden at 05:15. Styrkeprøven AS would like to take the opportunity to thank Arne for this incredible achievement and to say how proud we are to have such a fantastic representative of Norwegian cycle sport among our ranks. Arne is

8 cycling with start number 50, so if you see him during the race, give him a cheer. Another person worthy of a mention is Arnljot Mehl from Bærum OCK, who this year is riding his 40th Trondheim Oslo. We would also like to thank Arnljot for this fantastic achievement. In Trondheim, long-time director of Styrkeprøven, Ingar Wilhelmsen, is taking charge of the start. Ingar knows the history and riders of Styrkeprøven better than anyone and the cyclists are always pleased to see Ingar sending them on their way to Oslo. He is assisted by Styrkeprøven veteran Tore Elvedal, who will also be keeping an eye on things in Trondheim. We must of course also mention Leif Grimstveit, who in 2017 is riding in his 51st edition of Trondheim Oslo. Impressive! The next start location is Kvam in Nord-Fron municipality, where our race host Anette Lunde will look after around 100 cyclists this weekend. We are grateful to the Furusjøen Rundt race and Kvam Idrettslag for their work on the Half Styrkeprøven. Lillehammer Oslo is the most popular race distance in Styrkeprøven, with almost 3,000 riders setting of from the Swix building on Saturday 17 June. The Swix building on Blåswixveien was introduced as the start location in 2016 and was a great success. Based on feedback from riders, we have provided more extensive toilet facilities than in The Ladies Edition will also start from Lillehammer, as it did last year, and Styrkeprøven AS is very grateful for Caroline Vamnes s work with female cyclists. She is an excellent ambassador for Norwegian cycling. We are pleased to see more riders starting at Gjøvik than in They will have the honour of being the first to try the new start area at Gjøvik Gård. Solveig Skottene from Raufoss og Gjøvik Sykkelklubb is looking after all the starters and handling course direction duties in Gjøvik. 2

9 At Eidsvoll, Bjørn-Erik Nyrund of Eidsvoll SK is managing the start, while Tor Myrseth (9 x TO + 5 x LO) is on the speakers. A few points to remember with regard to the rules: Styrkeprøven is a tour race that is organised on roads that are open to other traffic. We ask our participants to remain alert and to exercise caution. It is far better to ride defensively than to end up in a hospital. All riders must comply with the traffic regulations (Forskrift om kjørende og gående trafikk the Norwegian Highway Code) as well as all instructions from the police and organisers. Remember to follow the rules on giving way to other traffic. If you are in any doubt, slow down and stop if necessary. Support vehicles are not permitted at our event. Styrkeprøven AS defines a support vehicle as a motorised vehicle that follows behind one or more cyclists without showing any willingness to pass the cyclists when the opportunity arises. Vehicles considered by the police or the organisers to be support vehicles risk being directed away from the route. Cyclists considered by the police or the organisers to be receiving assistance from support vehicles may be disqualified. Styrkeprøven AS asks that participants use our food stations and avoid using third-party food providers as far as possible. We look forward to seeing you at the finish line at Vallhall Arena in Oslo! 10 STYRKEPRØVEN BEFORE THE RACE COLLECTING YOUR START NUMBER Your start number can be collected from the secretariats at the starts. If you need to contact one of the secretariats, you will find their telephone numbers listed further below. Inside the envelope you are given you will find the following: Start number, timing chip that must be mounted/attached to the seat post, plus 4 luggage labels. The start number is a sticker and must be attached to your helmet. The other stickers are four luggage labels (everything must be labelled). The large label is a seat post timing chip and must be mounted/attached around the seat post. 4

13 TRANSPORT TO THE START LOCATIONS All transport departs from Oslo Central Station, Trelastgata 19 (Track 19). All bicycles can be dropped off from 1 hour before departure. Styrkeprøven AS will provide bubble wrap and packers who will wrap the bicycles and place them on trucks. Please note that all transport is ticketless. Those who have booked transport for their bicycle and themselves will be on our lists. For those travelling by train, we have staff on the platform who will inform you about your seats. TRONDHEIM Departure on both Thursday 15/6 and Friday 16/6 at 08:02. Arrival in Trondheim at 14:31. All bicycles can be dropped off from 1 hour before departure. Bicycles can be collected from Scandic Nidelven Hotel on arrival. KVAM Departure on Friday 16/6 at 08:02. Arrival in Kvam at around 11:15. All bicycles can be dropped off from 1 hour before departure. Bicycles can be collected from Sinclair Vertshus (opposite the supermarket) LILLEHAMMER Departures: Friday at 16:00 Arrives at Håkons Hall, bicycles same place. Saturday 03:30 Arrives at Swix (start area and secretariat), bicycles same place. Saturday 05:00 Arrives at Swix (start area and secretariat), bicycles same place. There will be a tent with changing rooms for women at the start area. GJØVIK Runs from Oslo (Track 19) at 07:00 to the start at Gjøvik Gård, where our secretariat is located. 7

14 STYRKEPRØVEN DURING THE RACE THE DIFFERENT START LOCATIONS & TIMING TRONDHEIM The start area is in Munkegata in the centre of Trondheim, opposite Tinghuset (Munkegata 13, 7013 Trondheim) KVAM The start is at Vertshuset Sinclair in the centre of Kvam. LILLEHAMMER The start is at Swixbygget, Blåswixvegen 5, 2624 Lillehammer. There will be a rolling start for each group for around 2 km before timing begins. IMPORTANT! Timing begins after 2 km. 17 STYRKEPRØVEN COURSE CONDITIONS IMPORTANT: SPECIAL CONDITIONS THE AREA BEFORE AND AFTER KLETTKRYSSET: There are lots of roadworks underway in this area, with new roundabouts being installed. Riders should be aware that the road surface here may be slightly uneven. TOTENVIKA MINNESUND: The inspection of this stretch on 11 May revealed cracks in the tarmac in some areas. Riders are asked to be aware of this, although it should not cause any problems. JESSHEIM: A new roundabout is being constructed at the junction between Trondheimsveien and Ringveien at Jessheim. According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Trondheimsveien, which the route follows, should have a tarmac surface before the race. BRIDGE AT FROGNER: 11

18 The bridge at Frogner is narrow and police will be on site to regulate the traffic across it. Single riders and riders in smaller groups are encouraged to use the pedestrian/cycle lane on the right-hand side of the bridge. IMPORTANT: ROUTE CHANGE AT SKEDSMOKORSET Following the construction of a pedestrian and cycle path between Skedsmokorset and Hvam, the route is changed, as in 2016, from Skedsmokorset via RV 120 to Kjeller, and then back to Hvam/Olavsgård. The road on this stretch is in good condition. When approaching Kjeller, riders should be aware of a relatively steep downhill ending in two roundabouts. The rest of the road towards Oslo has a good surface. Østre Aker vei will be divided into lanes using traffic cones from the town limit to the tunnel at Økern. Cyclists MUST use the left-hand lane on Østre Aker vei. Cyclists moving across into the right-hand lane risk disqualification as cycling in this lane is not permitted (see next page). 12

19 THE DETOUR WILL BE AS FOLLOWS: RV 383 to the roundabout at Skedsmokorset, then turn left (3rd exit at the roundabout). Follow RV 120 for 5 km, through 3 roundabouts (straight ahead at all of them) and down to RV

20 At the roundabout on RV 22, turn right (1st exit) and follow RV 22 for 2.5 km to the roundabout where you meet RV 383 again. Be aware that there is a relatively steep downhill towards RV 22. The downhill will be marked with yellow signs saying Sakte Fart/Slow Down. The detour section has a good road surface and visibility. 14

21 STYRKEPRØVEN MEDICAL SERVICE OPENING HOURS The different service points along the route will be staffed during the race and all the opening and closing times can be found in the table below. IMPORTANT! Medical/first-aid stations and food stations may have different opening hours. The course closes when the medical and first-aid staff go off duty. IMPORTANT! Please note that Soknedal is only staffed from midnight (Saturday 17/6) 00:00 and closes at 03:40. This means that the course is closed after 03:40. It will not be staffed again until Sunday morning 18/6 at 05:30. 30 STYRKEPRØVEN FINISHING AREA The finishing area for Styrkeprøven is Vallhall Arena, Innspurten 16, 0663 Oslo. In the finishing area you will find everything you need after completing Styrkeprøven, including a good hot meal (free of charge) on arrival, recovery products from our sponsors, as well as: Luggage collection Cycle parking Sleeping area Fully licensed restaurant selling hot food Exhibition area with stands selling cycling clothing from Castelli and glasses and helmets from Uvex. 32 STYRKEPRØVEN PARKING AT VALLE HOVIN Parking for Styrkeprøven. Parking is available for participants/support equipment in the finishing area at Valle Hovin stadium, with access from Grenseveien via Innspurten. If you are coming from the north on the E6, take the turn-off for Helsfyr (Grensesvingen) and turn left at the traffic lights onto Grenseveien. Follow this for around 200 metres, then turn right at the next set of traffic lights onto Innspurten. Signs/marshals will then direct you to the parking area. If you are coming from the south on the E6, take the turn-off for Helsfyr (Østensjøveien) and turn left at the traffic lights onto Grenseveien. Follow Grenseveien, then turn right onto Innspurten. (2nd set of traffic lights after joining Grenseveien.) If you are coming along Grenseveien from the west, turn left onto Innspurten and follow the signs to the parking area. 26
