Centre for Environmental Design of Renewable Energy - CEDREN The main objective of CEDREN is to develop and communicate design solutions for renewable energy production that address environmental and societal challenges at local, regional, national and global levels.
Environmental impacts of hydropeaking Environmental design of hydropower Technical hydropower development Tools for planning and operation of hydropower political, institutional and societal factors Laboratories, field sites, numerical and graphical lab, dissemination, management Mammals Environmental impacts of power transmission Environmental impacts and design of wind power
Goal: support and enhance the utilization of hydro power in an sustainable way by: Investment in new plants Upgrading of existing plants How: calculate increased value of hydro power s flexibility Analyzing hydro in CEDREN
Analyzing hydro in CEDREN Why: Environmental friendly hydro operation is in focus Closer integration towards Europe An increased share of uncontrolled RES production gives more volatile market prices
Hydro power development for peaking and load balancing (HYDROPEAK) in a European system with increasing use of non-regulated renewables HYDROPEAK Main goals To study how the hydropower system can support increasing amounts of non-regulated renewables (eg offshore wind power) What type of adaption that are needed (and possible) in the existing system Optimal design of the future hydropower system (incl Climate Change studies) Technological evolution and innovation (e.g. pumped storage, fish-pass, ) Design of environmentally friendly hydropower 9

Mer erosjon i vassdrag og innsjøer?
Environmental impacts of hydropeaking EnviPEAK The main objective is to assess environmental impacts of hydropeaking and to describe how, when and where hydropeaking may be done with acceptable impacts on the ecosystem. Mitigation strategies will also be addressed. Erosion and sediment transport Temperature and ice Fish Benthos Freshwater mussel Mammals Birds Also including: Model development Catalogue of measures and mitigation Categorizing hydropower plants
