Background Project: Heavy tactical bridge Bailey is not adequate for today's needs. Most are from Marshall Aid (War bailey) Quality of the manufacturing process The steel grade and the bridge characteristics Some sets are more recent (1950) Much of the equipment shows signs of age Capacity after recalculation is about 22 tons Time consuming to establish in relation to situation Packaging method 18
Preparedness Important for the military org. to have plans to deal with unexpected events, crisis and war. The engineer weapon is working on plans for all kinds of preparedness, including bridging Engineer cell at NJHQ Armed forces 9 tasks: 9.
Formal line: Preparedness NJHQ is the official recipient of all requests from civil authorities. Aid instruction/ Police Cooperation agreement Chief NJHQ shall decide whether and which support armed forces will perform in the situation Relation to which support is requested, it will take some time before the aid is effective. Parts of the army is on high alert (HRF) Emergency preparedness and cooperation are interrelated 20
Cooperation with the Norwegian road administration AWES and NRA have for a long time had a informal cooperation within bridging A general agency agreement under discussion between the two organizations Once this is in place we will be able to have agreements on a lower level, bridging cooperation: How to support the other party Common use of resources Joint training Development of skills and experience transfer Simplify the notification of a discrepancy situation Overall, this will improve national preparedness and provide an easier and more formal collaboration 21
Cooperation The expertise of bridging in the Armed Forces has increased dramatically in recent years This competence has been low because of attempts to simplify the subject and restructuring. This became clear in the late 90's. Armed forces was a student at its own material Cooperation with NRA has raised our knowledge Carried out 6 engineering courses with the Military Academy construction line, and is now part of their curriculum About 35 junior officers now have a basic knowledge of engineering and construction of element bridging (preparedness) The old tables is taken out of service and the designers now have a relation to risk and exploitation of the construction and general steel structures 22
Bridging expertise levels in the armed forces Required: Military academy engineer line or similar education Bridge engineer 2 Bridgeclassification Bridge engineer 1-Heavy Construction and calculation Bridge engineer 1-Light Construction and construction management Bruingeniør 3 Improvised bridging Bridge eng. 1-Instructor Instructor 1-Light Assistant instructor 1-Heavy Interdisciplinary bridging Løytnant Larsen, fagoffiser bro 23
