Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) En KIC er et «public-private» partnerskap med deltakere fra utdannings-, teknologi-, forsknings- og næringslivsmiljøer Bidrar til å øke europeisk konkurranseevne ved høyere grad av innovasjon Skal adressere de store samfunnsutfordringene Er en uavhengig legal enhet, ledes av en CEO Har 5-6 «co-location centres» (geografiske noder) i flere land Så langt: Tre KICs: Climate-KIC, EIT ICT Labs og KIC INNOENERGY 20 samlokaliseringssentre Over 200 partnere involvert EIT dekker maksimalt 25% av kostnadene til en KIC, partnerne bidrar med resten, gjennom egne midler og nasjonale og regionale midler. EU-midler er «seed money»
