World Green Building Council's Members Update This year, green building across the globe has continued to move beyond the nice to do on high end projects, and has become central to the urgent conversation on job creation, energy security and efficiencies that save money - as well as reducing carbon of course. GBCs everywhere have had to be nimble to maintain membership and prove that our agenda is really something to take notice of and invest time and resources in. There are positive signs. In the UK, Ecobuild was a niche industry expo only 5 years ago, with under 1000 attendees. But in 2010 it attracted 45,000 attendees, with 55,000 expected in 2011 - becoming the largest single event of any industry in the UK. In the USA, Greenbuild 2010 had almost 30,000 attendees, again doubling its numbers over the past 5 years. There is NO other sector that is showing this sort of growth during a recession. As economic models start to price in uncertainties such as the price of carbon, and intangibles such as the health and productivity benefits of green building in a more risk averse world, the business case for green building is coming into its own. What a tremendous opportunity we have in 2011, to build on this changing dynamic and communicate > 500 Nordic marked leaders, united in Green Assement of Buildings these benefits outside our sector to end users and governments alike.
