As the Houston Parks Board completes Bayou Greenways 2020, it is pursuing its next initiative, Beyond the Bayous. Building on the work of Bayou Greenways, Beyond the Bayous seeks to expand greater Houston s public realm through new public connections along utility corridors, underutilized rights of way and additional waterways. It also seeks new park opportunities from a variety of land types. This initiative requires close cooperation with a broad array of landowners and agencies, a multi-function approach and innovative financing mechanisms. The goals are equitable distribution of park space, greater park space access and preservation of our natural resources within a fully integrated, resilient, land use system. HPB seeks Consultants with experience designing parks, linear park systems with extensive natural landscapes, urban streetscapes, shared use trails, pedestrian bridges and related amenities. All plans and specifications will need to be sealed and signed by a Registered Professional Designer in the State of Texas. Local experience and a local presence over the past 5 years will be an important consideration. The Consultant will be required to coordinate and seek approvals from various agencies including but not limited to the City of Houston, Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County Precincts, Railroads, Utility Companies and the Texas Department of Transportation. The contracts for the services requested in this SOQ will be awarded over the next 24 months. The first contracts are anticipated to be awarded early 2019.
