The Titans won games against the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Jaguars in consecutive weeks to end their divisional schedule and give them the best divisional record in the AFC South at 4-2. Last Week Last week the Titans wrapped up their preseason with a home victory over the Green Bay Packers. The win gave the Titans a 3-1 record in the preseason, their best preseason mark since a 3-1 record in The majority of the starters played into the third quarter of the game, including quarterback Vince Young. For the second consecutive week, Young passed for a touchdown and ran for another score in the first half. His game totals included 96 yards and one touchdown on 11-of-16 passing, as well as 12 yards and a touchdown on two rushing attempts. For the second consecutive week, LenDale White started at running back and led the team in ground yards. He totaled 58 yards on 15 carries, while Chris Brown continued his productive preseason with 42 yards on seven carries to give him a team-high 170 yards and a 5.3-yard average in the preseason. The Jaguars Like the Titans, the Jaguars earned a 3-1 record in the preseason and won their last three games. They finished the preseason with a win over the Washington Redskins in a game in which very few Jaguars starters played. Starting quarterback David Garrard did play the first three series of the game before back-up Quinn Gray finished the contest. Head Coach Jack Del Rio, now entering his fifth campaign with the Jaguars, has led his club to three consecutive seasons with a.500 record or better, including an 8-8 mark in Del Rio s defensive unit was ranked second in the NFL last season, allowing opponents an average of only yards per game.

The second-year quarterback also ran for a score as Tennessee finished the preseason slate with a 3-1 record. Favre looked sharp in only two series of work, completing eight of 10 passes for 82 yards and a score. The Titans tied the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter after Young found wide receiver Brandon Jones over the middle for a 6-yard touchdown grab. The scoring drive was sparked by running back LenDale White s 21- yard scamper on a fourth-and-one play. The Titans defense forced a three-and-out on the Packers ensuing possession highlighted by defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch s 9-yard sack of backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers on third-and-nine. The Titans offense then marched 54 yards on 10 plays with Young capping off the drive with a nifty 8-yard touchdown run on a third-and-goal, giving Tennessee a 14-7 lead heading into halftime. After another Green Bay three-and-out, rookie wide receiver Chris Davis electrified the home crowd by returning a punt 70 yards for a touchdown. The fourth-round pick nearly broke his previous punt return, scampering 22 yards before being tripped up. Bironas concluded the scoring with a 46-yard field goal with 6:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Titans defense continued to excel at stopping the run, limiting the Packers to just 61 rushing yards on 27 carries (2.3 avg.). With a 9-7 mark in 2004, Del Rio posted the team's first winning record in five seasons along with a second-place finish in the division, the team's highest since In taking over the Jaguars in 2003, Del Rio was the architect of a defense that improved to sixth overall in the NFL, and second against the run. The defense allowed only one 100-yard rusher in As defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 2002, he took the defense from 31st in the league to second overall. From 1999 to 2001, Del Rio served as linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens, helping the team win Super Bowl XXXV over the New York Giants. The team has proven under Jeff Fisher it has the ability to do so even in the most hostile environments. Since Jeff Fisher took over fulltime as the team s head coach in 1995, the Titans are fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per road contest, averaging rushing yards per game. In 2006, the Titans ranked second in the NFL in rushing yards per game on the road. In eight games away from home, they totaled 1,274 yards on the ground for an average of That number trailed only one team, the Atlanta Falcons, who averaged yards. 15 TITANS PLAY IT CLOSE The Titans played an unusual number of close games in 2006, and by the end of the season, they were finding ways to win them. In total, the Titans played 11 games in which the final score was decided by seven or fewer points, the most in the Jeff Fisher coaching era (1995- present). It was also tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the most in the NFL in The Titans were 7-4 in those games. They went 4-3 in games decided by three or fewer points and 1-2 in games decided by one point. Tennessee s win at Buffalo (12/24) was the team s first one-point win since the 1999 season. While the previous two seasons resulted in road records of 3-5 and 1-7, the Titans under Head Coach Jeff Fisher normally have been one of the strongest teams in the NFL in terms of road victories. They are tied for the third-best road record in the NFL since the start of the 1995 season, the first full season under Fisher. Since that time, the franchise has gone on to win 50 out of their 96 games on the road (.521). The Titans now have posted a.500 or better road record in nine of the last 12 seasons.
