The Tennessee Titans (0-0) open the 2008 regular season this week, welcoming the AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars (0-0) to LP Field (capacity 69,143). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT on Sunday, Sept. 7. THE BROADCAST The game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF News Channel 5. Ian Eagle will handle play-by-play duties, while Solomon Wilcots will provide color commentary. Additionally, every Titans game is available on the Titans Radio Network, including flagship WKDF and more than 70 Titans Radio affiliates across the Mid-South. The Titans Radio broadcast team includes the Voice of the Titans Mike Keith, color commentator Frank Wycheck, sideline reporter Cody Allison and gameday host Larry Stone. KICKOFF 2008 IN THE AFC SOUTH For the second consecutive year, the Titans will open the regular season with a game against the Jaguars. In last year s opener, the Titans held on to a victory at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The Titans gained 282 rushing yards in the game, recording the second-highest total in franchise history. However, in the November rematch in Tennessee, the Jaguars exacted revenge with a victory in which they forced three turnovers and out-rushed the Titans by more than 100 yards (166 to 62). The Titans and Jaguars were the AFC Wild Card representatives in the playoffs last season, giving the AFC South three total playoff teams including the division-winning Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars earned an 11-5 regular season record and the fifth seed in the playoffs, followed by the sixth-seeded Titans at Trailing closely behind were the Houston Texans at 8-8. The Titans, Jaguars and Texans are vying to unseat the Colts, who have won the division in each season since The Titans have fared well in games within the division the last two seasons, tying the Colts for a division-best mark of 8-4. The Titans accumulated 403 total yards in the game and clung to the victory despite a Packers touchdown that nearly put the game into overtime. The Packers scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the fourth quarter. However, the two-point conversion failed, ending the game and giving the Titans a 3-1 mark in the preseason. THE JAGUARS Like the Titans, the Jaguars won last week to improve their preseason record to 3-1. In Washington, they defeated the Redskins convincingly, allowing only eight total first downs in a 24-3 win. Jack Del Rio, now in his sixth season as head coach of the Jaguars, added a familiar face to his staff during the offseason. He hired former Titans assistant Gregg Williams as the team s defensive coordinator/assistant head coach. Williams spent 11 seasons with the Titans organization ( ), including four years as defensive coordinator, before moving on to the Buffalo Bills (head coach) and Redskins (defensive coordinator) staffs.

Head Coach Jeff Fisher begins his 14th full season as head coach. The Titans-Jaguars contest is one of two NFL games on the Kickoff Weekend schedule to feature a pair of playoff teams from last season (Washington-New York Giants). Several Titans are scheduled to make their regular season debuts with the team, including tight end Alge Crumpler, right guard Jake Scott, kick returner/defensive back Chris Carr and rookie running back Chris Johnson. Former Titans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams returns to LP Field as the recently hired defensive coordinator of the Jaguars. Defensive end Jevon Kearse (47.5 sacks with Titans) will take over sixth place on the team s all-time sack list with one sack (Robert Brazile, 48). QB Vince Young needs 53 rushing yards to reach 1,000 career rushing yards. RB LenDale White will attempt to record his sixth 100-yard rushing game of his career. 3 TITANS-JAGUARS SERIES HISTORY The Titans and Jaguars have met at least twice each year since Jacksonville began play as an expansion franchise in In the 1995 season opener, the Oilers defeated Jacksonville by a score of 10-3 in the inaugural game in Jaguars team history. That game marked the begining of a fiercely-contested rivalry that is now in its 14th season, the first seven seasons in the AFC Central and the last seven in the AFC South. The teams have met a total of 27 times, with the Titans holding a advantage. This is the third time the Titans and Jaguars have met in the first week of the season. The 1995 opener was the only time the Titans and Jaguars began the schedule against each other until The Titans have won eight of the last 13 meetings between the two teams, including a victory in last year s opener. In that game, the Titans rushed for a total of 282 yards in a triumph. In the November rematch at LP Field, the Jaguars pulled away with a victory in which they forced three turnovers and out-rushed the Titans by more than 100 yards (166 to 62). While the most recent Titans-Jaguars contest ended with a rare one-sided final score, most of their games have been highly competitive. Overall, 17 of the 27 Titans-Jaguars meetings have been decided by seven points or fewer, and four of the last eight have been decided by three points or fewer. The Titans have posted two separate five-game winning streaks against the Jaguars, dating from and Jacksonville s longest winning streak in the series was a four-game run from The stakes of the rivalry were never higher than in 1999, when the Titans and Jaguars met three times, including the AFC Championship Game in Jacksonville. Tennessee went on to Super Bowl XXXIV and eventuall fell at the hands of the St. Louis Rams, TITANS-JAGUARS: THE LAST MEETING Jacksonville Jaguars 28 at Tennessee Titans 13 Sunday, November 11, 2007 LP Field, Nashville, Tenn Final Jacksonville Jaguars Tennessee Titans In Week 10 of the 2007 regular season, the Jacksonville Jaguars ended the Tennessee Titans three-game winning streak with a win at LP Field. The Jaguars became the first team in 2007 to surpass 100 rushing yards as a team against the Titans defense, which was playing without two key contributors on the defensive line, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and defensive end Travis LaBoy. Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew gained 101 of the team s 166 rushing yards. Jones-Drew became the first individual in 15 games to reach 100 rushing yards against the Titans. Running back Fred Taylor also was a factor for the Jaguars. He gained 45 yards on 16 carries, including a 15-yard run in the first quarter that gave him 10,000 career rushing yards. While losing the rushing battle, the Titans outgained the Jaguars in total yards, 292 to 262. Quarterback Vince Young set career highs with 41 attempts and 257 yards, while tying a career high with 24 completions. He also rushed for a team-high 52 yards. The Jaguars had two touchdown drives in the first half that each consumed over seven minutes of the game clock. On their first series, quarterback Quinn Gray, starting for an injured David Garrard, commanded a 13-play, 80-yard drive that took 7:31. Fullback Greg Jones scored on a two-yard run to give them an initial lead that they would not relinquish. In the second quarter, Jones-Drew scored a touchdown on an eight-yard run to cap a drive that took 7:06. The Titans began the second half with turnovers on their first two possessions, the second of which was costly. The first, a fumbled snap by center Kevin Mawae, was not converted to points due to safety Michael Griffin thwarting a fake field goal try with a tackle of holder Adam Podlesh. Three plays later, however, Young was intercepted by linebacker Mike Peterson, and Taylor soon found the end zone on a four-yard run. Taylor s touchdown gave the Jaguars a 21-3 lead. The Titans responded, going no-huddle on their next drive and for much of the remainder of the game. They drove 55 yards on seven plays, and Rob Bironas made a 49-yard field goal to make the score The Titans kept the momentum on their next drive. They picked up a first down on a fourth-and-four on a 16-yard reception by Brandon Jones. Three plays later on the first play of the fourth quarter, Gage scored on a 20-yard reception that he made after juggling the ball while lying on the ground. After an exchange of punts, the Jaguars went on an 11-play drive that extended their lead to after Greg Jones scored on a three-yard run. 6 Tennessee Titans 23 at Green Bay Packers 21 Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisc Final Tennessee Titans Green Bay Packers LAST WEEK vs. GREEN BAY PACKERS The Tennessee Titans closed the 2008 preseason with a win over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Packers scored on their first and last plays from scrimmage of the game, the latter putting them in position to send the game into overtime with a two-point conversion. Packers quarterback Matt Flynn found wide receiver Jake Allen in the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown pass to pull Green Bay within two points as the fourth quarter expired. On the ensuing two-point conversion attempt, Flynn connected on a pass to receiver Johnny Quinn, but Quinn was unable to land in bounds to tie the game. Early in the game, Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed a 68-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Greg Jennings on the team s first play of the game. It would be the one and only play for the Packers offensive starters. The Titans responded with a scoring drive of their own. They went 76 yards on 10 plays on a drive highlighted by a 50-yard completion from Vince Young to Justin McCareins. However, the Titans would settle for a 22- yard field goal by John Vaughn, his first of three successful field goals on four attempts. Tennessee began another scoring drive later in the first quarter. Young helped the drive by converting a third-and-10 with a 31-yard run. He would end up the game s leading rusher with 57 yards on three carries. The Titans narrowed the Green Bay lead to 7-6 with a 27-yard field goal by Vaughn. Defense and special teams brought about the next score in the game and the first touchdown of the evening by the Titans. Defensive end Jevon Kearse forced a fumble by Flynn on a sack, and the ball was recovered by linebacker Stephen Tulloch at the Green Bay 43-yard line. The Titans Vincent Fuller scored on a fake punt against the Packers. seemed poised to punt after the offense was unable to gain a first down but instead executed a fake punt. Vincent Fuller took a direct snap from Ken Amato and raced 40 yards into the end zone, giving the Titans a 13-7 lead. Green Bay s next offensive play resulted in an identical scenario as their previous one. Quarterback Brian Brohm was sacked by defensive end Jacob Ford. Brohm fumbled, and linebacker Colin Allred was there to recover. Vaughn made a 24-yard field goal to give the Titans a 16-7 halftime lead. With Kerry Collins quarterbacking the offense at the start of the third quarter, the Titans drove 80 yards on 14 plays. They reached the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run by Chris Johnson, who earlier on the drive caught a 13-yard pass to convert a fourth-and-three. Later in the third quarter, Flynn threw a six-yard touchdown pass to receiver Brett Swain, setting the stage for the dramatic fourth quarter. QUICK STRIKES: Each team completed a long pass quickly in its initial possession. After Green Bay scored on a 68-yard pass from Aaron Rodgers to Greg Jennings on the game s first play, the Titans responded with a 50-yard pass from Vince Young to Justin McCareins. McCareins catch, the second longest pass of the preseason by the Titans, resulted in a 22-yard field goal. KVB ON THE BOARD: Kyle Vanden Bosch recorded a 13-yard sack in the first quarter, his first sack of the preseason. The sack ended Green Bay s second drive of the game. Vanden Bosch led the Titans last season with 12 sacks. NOTES FROM LAST WEEK S GAME Ken Amato hiked the ball directly to Vincent Fuller, who raced into the end zone to give the Titans a 13-7 lead. CONSECUTIVE FORCED FUMBLES: In the second quarter, a pair of Titans defensive ends turned in big plays on consecutive series. Jevon Kearse recorded a seven-yard sack and forced a fumble against Green Bay quarterback Matt Flynn. The ball was recovered by linebacker Stephen Tulloch. On the Packers next series, defensive end Jacob Ford sacked Brian Brohm and knocked the ball loose. It was recovered by linebacker Colin Allred. The two turnovers resulted in 10 points for the Titans. FULLER SCORES ON FAKE: The Titans executed a fake punt for a touchdown in the second quarter. From the Green Bay 40-yard line, punter Craig Hentrich dropped back to receive the snap. However center TULLOCH AND ALLRED START AT LINEBACKER: The Titans were without two of their starting linebackers to open the game in Green Bay. Outside linebackers Keith Bulluck (calf injury) and David Thornton (shoulder) were held out of action, allowing third-year veteran Stephen Tulloch and first-year player Colin Allred to start the game. Tulloch and Allred each recovered fumbles in the first half. STEWART RETURNS: After missing the last two games with a knee injury, right tackle David Stewart returned to action. The 6-7, 318-pound lineman played the first quarter before yielding to back-up Daniel Loper. STARTERS GO THROUGH FIRST HALF: The majority of Titans starters played the entire first half against the Packers, and many on offense also saw action on the first series of the second half. Quarterback Vince Young played only the first two quarters. Defensively, most of the starters were out at the beginning of the third quarter. Jevon Kearse forced a fumble on this sack of Matt Flynn. SUCCESS TO BEGIN THIRD QUARTER: Many of the Titans starters were in the game at the beginning of the third quarter, and it paid dividends. The Titans took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 80 yards on 14 plays. They scored when rookie running back Chris Johnson marched into the end zone on a one-yard run. 6

9 GENERAL MANAGER MIKE REINFELDT Mike Reinfeldt is in his 28th season in the NFL, second as Titans Executive Vice President/General Manager and 10th with the Oilers/Titans franchise. Reinfeldt s first tenure with the team was from as an All-Pro safety. He re-joined the franchise in 2007, after spending seven years with the Seattle Seahawks. Reinfeldt has 22 years of experience as a front office executive and another nine as an NFL player. In his 16 years as an NFL executive with Tennessee, Seattle and Green Bay, his teams have won a combined six division titles, made 11 playoff appearances, four NFC Championship game appearances, three Super Bowl appearances, captured one world title (1996) and amassed 13 winning seasons. In Reinfeldt s first two years of free agency with the Titans, key players added to the roster include cornerback Nick Harper, linebacker Ryan Fowler, wide receivers Justin Gage and Justin McCareins, guard Jake Scott and defensive end Jevon Kearse. Reinfeldt also has led the team in selecting 17 players in the past two NFL drafts. Safety Michael Griffin, the Titans 2007 first-round selection and Reinfeldt s first-ever draft pick as a general manager, had a solid rookie campaign. This year s first-round pick, running back Chris Johnson, brings high expectations to diversify the offense. Reinfeldt also has worked to retain several key players through contract extensions. 10 Jeff Fisher is in his 14th full season as Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans and his ninth as Executive Vice President. Fisher holds the franchise record for wins by a head coach and is the NFL leader in tenure with one team among active coaches. He was named interim head coach for the last six games of the 1994 season and has been in his current post ever since, leading the team through the transition from its final years in Houston to some of the club s greatest successes in Tennessee. Over the previous nine seasons ( ), Fisher guided the franchise to five playoff appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007) only five teams (Indianapolis, New England, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Seatte) had more appearances during that time. The former Texas Longhorn has 30 NFL games under his belt and has a record of (.607) in 28 regular season contests as a starter. 19 Hall of Fame offensive lineman Mike Munchak began coaching the team s offensive line in Since that time, the unit has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in fewest sacks allowed, net rushing yards and average rushing yards. In only one season (2001) since Munchak took over as offensive line coach have the Titans not finished the season ranked in the top 10 in any of the three categories. This year s starters on the offensive line are left tackle Michael Roos, left guard Eugene Amano, center Kevin Mawae, right guard Jake Scott and right tackle David Stewart. Among the starters, only Scott is new to the group in In 2007, the same offensive linemen that started the majority of the games were the primary starters the previous season in 2006 (Roos, Jacob Bell, Mawae, Benji Olson and Stewart). In 2007, he started 15 games and earned a 9-6 record. The 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year was 238-of-382 (62.3 percent) for 2,546 yards and nine touchdowns in his second NFL season. He also rushed for 395 yards and three touchdowns on 93 carries. He missed one game (10/21 at Houston) with a quad injury. Back-up quarterback Kerry Collins is in his 14th NFL season and third with the Titans. In 2007, he appeared in six games with one start. He totaled 82 passing attempts, 50 completions for 531 yards and did not pass for a touchdown or an interception. Collins ranks in the NFL s all-time Top 20 in several major passing categories, including pass attempts (12th), completions (13th) and passing yards (16th). At the NFL Scouting Combine in February 2008, he posted the fastest 40-yard dash of any prospect with a time of 4.24 seconds. He led the squad with a career-high 750 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. Gage spent his first four NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, where he totaled 64 receptions for 908 yards and four touchdowns. Justin McCareins rejoined his original NFL club after signing with the Titans as a free agent during the 2008 offseason. McCareins, who is in his eighth NFL season, was selected by the Titans in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. In 2004, he was traded to the New York Jets, where he spent the next four years. In 2007, McCareins totaled 19 receptions for 232 yards in his final campaign with the Jets. Brandon Jones is in his fourth season in The former thirdround draft choice was placed on injured reserve in 2007 with a groin injury after tallying 21 receptions for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Lavelle Hawkins was Tennessee s second draft pick of the fourth round in The former California star totaled 136 career receptions in three years with the Golden Bears before entering the NFL. Two members of the 2007 draft class return with the receiving corps. The Titans used a third-round pick last season on former Fresno State standout Paul Williams and a fourth-round pick on Florida State product Chris Davis. The four-time Pro Bowler signed with the Titans as a free agent during the 2008 offseason after spending his first seven years with the Atlanta Falcons. In Atlanta, the former North Carolina Tarheel became the franchise s all-time leader among tight ends in career receptions (316) and career touchdown receptions (35). The Titans also signed tight end Dwayne Blakley from the Falcons during the offseason. The fifth-year pro from Missouri totaled 21 receptions in four seasons with the Falcons. Tight end Bo Scaife is in his fourth NFL season out of the University of Texas. In 2007, he was the team s leading receiver among tight ends. The former sixth-round draft choice was third overall on the team with 46 receptions for 421 yards and one touchdown. Fourth-year veteran Eric King spent his first NFL season with the Buffalo Bills in 2005 and was claimed off waivers by the Titans just prior to the start of the 2006 season. He started the first 11 games of the 2007 season before landing on injured reserve with a neck injury in December. His season statistics included 60 tackles and two interceptions. The former Florida State product spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Titans as an unrestricted free agent. Michael Griffin is entering his first full season as the team s starting free safety. A first-round draft choice from the University of Texas in 2007, he moved into the starting lineup during his rookie campaign and totaled 49 tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defensed, one forced fumble and a team-high 16 special teams tackles. The former University of Florida star led his team in sacks in six of his first seven NFL seasons. He won the Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 1999 after setting a rookie record with 14.5 sacks. Dave Ball was signed as a free agent during the 2008 offseason. The fourth-year player from UCLA was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. 34 SPECIALISTS OVERVIEW Special Teams Coach: Alan Lowry -- 28th NFL Season, 13th with Titans (10th as special teams coach) Kickers: Kicker Rob Bironas is in his fourth NFL season. In 2007, he was voted to his first Pro Bowl. The former Arena League standout was 35-of-39 on field goals and 28-of-28 on PATs. He led the NFL in made field goals and was second in the AFC and third in the NFL in scoring among kickers with 133 points. He made 19 consecutive field goals from Oct. 14-Nov. 25, including an NFL-record eight field goals at Houston on Oct. 21. On kickoffs, he was third in the NFL with 16 touchbacks. Punters: Craig Hentrich completed his 14th NFL season and 10th campaign with the Titans in The franchise s all-time leader in career punts recorded a 42.0-yard average (36.5 net) on 70 punts. He became the 17th punter in NFL history to reach 1,000 punts. Of active punters, only the Giants Jeff Feagles has more career punts than Hentrich, who is 14th on the NFL s all-time list. Hentrich also serves as the team s primary holder on field goals and extra point attempts, with Donnie Nickey backing him up. Returners: During the 2008 offseason, the Titans signed Chris Carr as a restricted free agent from the Oakland Raiders. The former Boise State standout possesses the ability to handle punt return and kickoff return duties for the Titans. In his first three NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders, he became the club s all-time kickoff return leader. In 2007, he fielded 59 kickoffs for 1,327 yards (22.5 avg.) and added eight punt returns for 52 yards (6.5 avg.) In 2007, fourth-round draft pick Chris Davis led the team with 31 punt returns for 293 yards (9.5 avg.). Michael Griffin led the team with 18 kickoff returns for 422 yards (23.4 avg.).
