Tipoff at the ASU Convocation Center is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live by HSSN on DirecTV Channel 617. The game has been designated as ASU s WBCA Pink Zone game to help in the fight against breast cancer. All ASU games may be heard on KWHF 95.9 FM The Wolf and through the StateZone portion of. LiveStats may also be accessed by logging on to THE TEAMS: Arkansas State will square off against the Hilltoppers at overall, including a 6-9 record in Sun Belt Conference play. The Red Wolves have won two of their last three games with both victories coming by large margins. ASU defeated Louisiana-Lafayette Feb. 17 in Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe Feb. 8 in Jonesboro. The Red Wolves only loss in their last three games was an overtime loss to the Lady Toppers Feb. 10 in Bowling Green. After defeating ASU, Western Kentucky saw it s five-game win streak snapped with a loss at UALR, but the Hilltoppers have since rebounded with a victory over South Alabama Feb. 17. THE WKU SERIES: The two teams played less than two weeks ago with the Hilltoppers coming away with an overtime victory in Bowling Green Feb. 6. Western Kentucky holds a overall advantage in the series, but the Red Wolves hold an 11-6 advantage in games played in Jonesboro. Arkansas State trails 17-3 in games played in Bowling Green and 4-1 in games played on a neutral court. In the last meeting in Jonesboro between the two teams, Arkansas State defeated the Hilltoppers last season at the ASU Convocation Center. The WBCA PinkZone initiative is a global, unified effort for coaches and players to assist in raising cancer awareness on the court, across campuses and in the community. The Red Wolves will be playing in pink jerseys with cancer survivors names replacing their own. Pink Crocs will be given away to the first 500 fans in attendance, and the first 100 ASU students will receive a Subway coupon for a free sandwich. Jefferson posted her second double-double of the season and the third of her career when she scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Red Wolves victory over Louisiana-Lafayette Jan. 27. She followed that up with a 21-point, six-rebound effort in ASU s victory over Denver Jan. 30. For the week, Jefferson connected on an impressive 16-of-31 (.516) shots from the floor, grabbed 17 rebounds, seven of which were on the offensive end, and added four steals and three assists. "Ebonie is very deserving of this recognition, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. I thought she played extremely well this week in all aspects of the game. She scored, she rebounded the ball extremely well, her defense was outstanding and she made good decisions with the ball." MILESTONE FOR JEFFERSON: When Arkansas State senior guard Ebonie Jefferson scored her fourth point against Western Kentucky Feb. 10, she became just the 18th ASU women s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone in her career. Jefferson finished the night with 17 points and currently stands at 1,026 career points and is in 17th place on the ASU alltime scoring chart. WEEK-LONG BLOCK PARTY: Arkansas State tied its season high for blocked shots in a game with seven Feb. 8 against Louisiana- Monroe, then set a new high when the Red Wolves swatted away 10 Western Kentucky shots in the Red Wolves next game Feb. 10. The 10 blocked shots against Western Kentucky also tied the school record for a single game, matching ASU s 10-block effort against Mississippi College during the season. Eight of those games have been played on the road, including this year s victory at Kansas State, the Red Wolves win at Northern Arizona and ASU s loss at Western Kentucky. Arkansas State s four overtime games and three victories this season are the most ever in a single season for ASU. The Red Wolves played three overtimes in three previous seasons ( , and ) but finished 2-1 in those games each year. Former Louisiana Tech head coach Leon Barmore tops the list with 135 SBC victories. RECORDS WATCH: With her five rebounds against ULL Feb. 17, junior forward Shay Scott is in 9th place on the ASU all-time rebounding chart with 633 rebounds in her career. Michelle Horton ( ) is in 8th place with 645 rebounds during her career. Scott is also in fifth place on the ASU blocked shots career chart with 72 and now trails Charlotte Fields ( , 88) who blocked 80 shots in her career to finish in fourth place. Tied with Scott is senior forward Lyndsay Schlup, who blocked two shots against ULL to bring her total to 72 as well. Both Schlup and Scott are climbing the single-season blocked shots chart as well. Schlup has blocked 31 shots so far this season to rank as the eighthbest, while Scott has 26 to tie for 12th place. As a team, the Red Wolves currently have blocked 114 shots on the season and have a chance to surpass the record of 127 set during the season. Senior guard Ebonie Jefferson is now in 11th place on the all-time steals chart after notching two more against ULL to bring her total to 152. She now trails Rae-Anne Smith ( ) who is in 10th place with 153 steals. With 13 points against ULL, Jefferson moved into 17th place on the all-time ASU scoring chart with 1,026 points. Jefferson now trails former teammate Ali Carter ( ) who is in 16th place with 1,030 points. DOUBLE-DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Senior forward Lyndsay Schlup (17 points, 10 rebounds) and junior forward Shay Scott (18 points, 14 rebounds) each registered a double-double Feb. 10 at Western Kentucky, marking the third time this season that two ASU players have posted a double-double in the same game and the second time the two have paired up. Senior guard Ebonie Jefferson (23 points, 11 rebounds) and Scott (16 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in ASU s overtime win at Northern Arizona Dec. 5. Schlup and Scott both recorded doubledoubles against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Nov. 18 to mark the Red Wolves first game with two double-doubles since Scott and senior guard Ebonie Jefferson each doubled-up against North Texas during the season. Schlup finished the UAPB game with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Scott scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. EB ON A ROLL: After scoring seven points in ASU s season opener at Creighton, senior guard Ebonie Jefferson has scored in double figures in all but five of ASU s games since, including double-doubles in the Red Wolves wins over Northern Arizona and ULL. One week after earning all-tournament honors at the Nov Seton Hall Classic, Jefferson scored a career-high 27 points against Missouri State Nov. 27 to help her average a team-best 21.7 points in ASU s three games during the week of Nov Jefferson opened her week with a 20-point performance against Louisiana Tech, added 27 against Missouri State and finished the week with 18 at Saint Louis. For the week, Jefferson shot 50% from the field (21-42),.821 from the line (23-28) and averaged 5.7 rebounds per game. She also added six steals, six assists and a blocked shot. In Arkansas State s only game the following week, Jefferson scored a game-high 23 points and completed her second career double-double with 11 rebounds in ASU s overtime victory at Northern Arizona Dec. 5. She hit 9-of-14 shots from the field against the Lumberjacks, five-of-7 from the line and added three steals in the game. ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS: Senior Ebonie Jefferson was named to the alltournament team at the Anaconda Sports & The Rock Seton Hall Classic last weekend following her performance in ASU s two games. Jefferson scored in double figures in both of ASU s games, finishing with 11 points against Virginia Commonwealth in the Red Wolves opening game before repeating the effort in Saturday s consolation game against Seton Hall. Jefferson also had five steals and eight rebounds in the two-game classic. Jefferson was joined on the team by Kandice Green of Seton Hall, Corin Adams and Erin Hawkins of Morgan State and La Tavia Rorie and D Andra Moss of VCU, with Moss earning MVP honors. SCHLUP SHINES: Senior forward Lyndsay Schlup was outstanding on the boards for Arkansas State during the week of Nov Schlup opened the week with a 6-rebound performance against Louisiana Tech, cleaned the glass for 13 rebounds against Missouri State, then topped that figure with 15 more against Saint Louis. For the week, Schlup averaged 11.3 rebounds per game and added four blocked shots and four steals. She currently leads the Red Wolves on the boards, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game and has five double-digit rebounding games this season. HOT SHOOTING: Although the Red Wolves came up on the short end of a score, Arkansas State made a season-high seven 3- pointers at Saint Louis Nov. 30 and shot a season-high.467 (7-15) from behind the arc. Additionally, the Red Wolves committed a season-low 14 turnovers against the Billikens. CLEANING THE GLASS: The Red Wolves tied a Convocation Center record for rebounding in their victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff when ASU ripped down 71 rebounds against the Golden Lions, matching the mark set against Ouachita Baptist Dec. 13, Arkansas State s 71 rebounds in the game was just shy of the school record of 75 set against UAPB during the season and are the most pulled down by any team in the Sun Belt this season. The Red Wolves 34 offensive rebounds against UAPB topped the previous Convocation Center high of 33 set against Central Florida Feb. 14, THE RED WOLVES AT HOME: Over the last five-plus years, the ASU women s basketball program boasts a winning percentage of.791 (76-20) at the ASU Convocation Center. The Red Wolves are (.765) all-time at the Convocation Center and (.707) under head coach Brian Boyer. SBC HONORS: Arkansas State senior Ebonie Jefferson (Laurel, Miss.) has been named preseason third-team All-Sun Belt Conference, and the Red Wolves are picked third in the Sun Belt West Division preseason poll as voted on by the league s 13 head coaches, the conference office announced Oct. 20. "I expect Ebonie to play at an all-conference level this season, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. I can't imagine that there is a tougher competitor or a harder worker in the league. I am so proud of how far Ebonie has come during her career, and I look forward to her continued improvement this season." Jefferson scored in double figures in 14 of ASU s last 17 games a year ago, had 19 double-figure games on the season and led ASU in scoring with an 11.8 points-per-game average, a figure that climbed to 13.0 pointsper-game in Sun Belt Conference play. The Red Wolves return three of their top four scorers and four of the top five rebounders from last year s team that finished LAST TIME OUT: LAFAYETTE, La. (2/17/10) Sophomore guard NeNe Hurst led three players in double figures, and Arkansas State dominated on the boards as the Red Wolves rolled to an victory over the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns Wednesday night at Earl K. Long Gymnasium. Senior guard Ebonie Jefferson finished with 13 points, and junior forward Shay Scott added 10 to help A-State post its highest scoring total of the season. Senior forward Lyndsay Schlup led ASU on the boards with 10 rebounds, Jefferson had nine and Hurst added eight to help the Red Wolves outrebound the Cajuns on the night. Arkansas State jumped out to an 18-3 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back. Hurst sparked the hot start for the Red Wolves with seven points during Arkansas State s opening run and by halftime was in double figures along with Jefferson with 14 and 10 points, respectively. I am really pleased because we played for 40 minutes tonight, from start to finish, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. Especially the start. You could tell when the ball went up at the tip that we would like the energy level. We really did a good job right from the start. Defensively we did a good job and from an individual standpoint, NeNe Hurst really got it going tonight, especially early on. That kind of got us going and got us lifted and we just followed through from there. Louisiana-Lafayette cut the Red Wolves early 15-point lead to nine points at with 9:12 to play before halftime, but Arkansas State closed the first half with a push, ending the period with an 11-1 run in the final 3:50 to take a lead into the locker room. Louisiana-Lafayette scored the first basket of the second half to cut the ASU lead to 19, but that was as close as the Ragin Cajuns would get as the Red Wolves lead swelled to as much as 32 in the second half. Twelve players saw action for Arkansas State on the night and all 12 scored, with sophomore Meghan Lewis adding nine points and Schlup tossing in eight. Sophomore Linsay Henke finished the evening with six points, while junior Breaunna Ellison and freshmen Quinishia McDowell and LaWanda Clayborn added five each. Freshman Jessica Brown scored four points, freshman Jasmine Taylor added two points and freshman Andi Watson closed out the ASU scoring with one point. Arkansas State hit 30-of-62 attempts to shoot a season-high 48.4 percent from the floor on the night while holding the Cajuns to just 29.4 percent on 20-of-68 shooting. Louisiana-Lafayette senior guard Alexis Green led all scorers with 23 points. ASU IN SEASON OPENERS: The Red Wolves are all-time in season openers, with a record of 7-14 when opening the season on the road. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP: In an effort to help acclimate Arkansas State s international students to life in the United States, the ASU women s basketball program began a partnership with the university s international community by holding a basketball clinic Sunday evening at the ASU Convocation Center. Over 80 international students were on hand as the team members and coaching staff introduced themselves and introduced the students to Red Wolves women s basketball. The students joined the team on the court for drills and fundamental instruction, then enjoyed a pizza party to wrap up the night s activities. This is a semester-long project that got underway with the clinic last night, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. We wanted to let our international students know how much we appreciate them and to encourage them to be more involved with all of the activities on campus. We also wanted to increase their awareness of athletics here at Arkansas State, introduce them to the Convocation Center and allow them to get to know our team. Arkansas State s players will partner with an international student throughout the semester, meeting with the student for at least an hour each week to help them become familiar with Arkansas State and ease their transition to life in the United States. The women s basketball team will salute ASU s international students at the Nov. 18 home opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Next week s game has been designated as International Students Night at the Convocation Center. RED WOLVES ADD MORRILL: JONESBORO, Ark. (11/11/09) Arkansas State head coach Brian Boyer announced Wednesday that Scott City, Mo. standout Jane Morrill has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career at Arkansas State University. A 6 1 forward, Morrill is on pace to top the 1,000-point mark in her career at Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo. and averages 15.7 points and nine rebounds per game. She is a two-time All-Conference, All-District and All-Regional selection, earning conference MVP honors following her sophomore year with the Bulldogs. She has blocked 151 shots over the past two seasons at Notre Dame and is expected to finish her career as the school s all-time leader. From day one, Jane was our number one recruit, and we were so excited when she committed to us, said Boyer. She is going to be an impact front-line player at this level. She is not only a very good scorer, but she is a very versatile post player. She understands the game and passes it very well for a player her size. In addition to her skills on the basketball court, Morrill is a two-time All-State softball player at Notre Dame, also earning All- Conference, All-District and All-Regional honors along the way. She is the daughter of Alan and Carla Morrill. Jane is the total package, said Notre Dame head coach Renee Peters. She has size, shooting ability, passing ability, shot blocking ability and rebounding ability. She knows the game so well. She can see the game set up and know how to thread the needle with passes. She is also an excellent perimeter shooter and ball handler. You are not going to see many girls her size take the ball behind their back when they take someone one-on-one. But she isn t someone who worries about cushioning stats and making herself look better; she wants to win and however that falls in place is fine with her. QEDAN INKS WITH ASU: JONESBORO, Ark. (11/11/09) Arkansas State head coach Brian Boyer announced Wednesday that Hanna Qedan, a 5 11 guard from Farmington, Ark., has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Red Wolves lineup for the season. Hanna can really shoot the ball, said Boyer. To go along with that, she has very good size for a guard, so she is able to get a shot off on a lot of people. But the thing that really stands out about her is her explosiveness. She handles the ball just as well left or right, so she is more than just a shooter, she is a very good all-around guard. The Farmington High School standout averages 19.4 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game and four blocks per game. She has 19 double-doubles so far in her career and owns a 32-point career-high game. She was named All-Conference and an AAO Top 25 Camp nominee. She was selected to the All-Northwest Arkansas team, the All- County team, the KURM Dream Team and was a Top 10 All-American Camp participant. Hanna is a tenacious player on both ends of the floor, said Farmington head coach Brad Johnson. She is a big guard who has a great face-up game. She can shoot it from outside, but probably her biggest asset is her explosiveness to the basket. She gets to the basket quickly with either hand and she is big enough and physical enough that she can take it down low and post up. She is a very versatile player and knowing the offensive sets that Coach Boyer runs at ASU, she is tailor-made for them offensively. She is the daughter of Bashar and Jeri Qedan. MADDOX SIGNS WITH ASU: JONESBORO, Ark. (11/11/09) Arkansas State head coach Brian Boyer announced Wednesday that Millington (Tenn.) Central guard/forward Olivia Maddox has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career at ASU. Maddox, 5 11, was a Class 3-A All-State Tournament selection following her sophomore year in which she averaged 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and helped lead Millington to a state runner-up finish. She was also named Memphis Best of Preps and earned All-District honors following the season. Olivia has been a part of one of the most successful programs in the Memphis area, said Boyer. In addition to being on a very successful team, they are very well balanced in terms of scoring. She is a great athlete who really fits our system well and is someone that our fans will enjoy watching over the next four years. Olivia is very athletic, very smooth to the basket and is a great offensive rebounder. It is unfortunate that she didn t get to play last year due to a knee injury, but her best basketball is ahead of her and we have all the confidence that she is going to be a great player for us. I think Arkansas State is getting a young lady with a lot of athleticism who has a lot of upside to her game, said Millington head coach Stan Gatlin. She has great rebounding ability, jumping ability and great defensive intensity. 8 Head Coach Brian Boyer Through 10 seasons as head coach at Arkansas State University, Brian Boyer s name has become synonymous with success and the women s basketball program. Entering his 11th season as head coach at ASU, Boyer has climbed to second place on the ASU career win chart with a record of Under Boyer s guidance, Arkansas State has reached the Women s National Invitation Tournament four times, including three of the past six seasons. He led the Red Wolves to the Sun Belt East Division Championship, the program has produced 17 All- Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm and Boyer was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the , and seasons. His 89 career Sun Belt Conference victories heading into the season rank him fourth all-time in career conference wins. Boyer directed the Red Wolves to yet another winning season as he wrapped up his first decade as the program s head coach in The Red Wolves finished the season at 16-14, posting victories over post-season participants Creighton and Arkansas-Little Rock along the way. Although the season was expected by many to be a rebuilding year, Boyer put forth what was arguably one of his finest coaching performances, molding a group of unheralded players into a team that produced yet another 20-win season at Arkansas State. Faced with the task of replacing three 1,000- point scorers, including the program s all time leading shot blocker and rebounder, along with the all-time assists leader, Boyer directed Arkansas State to a record. ASU won a record 13 conference games during the season, and reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the 13th time in 16 tries. The Red Wolves finished the season with the distinction of being the only Division I program in the country with a winning record that did not have a single player who averaged double figure scoring. Arkansas State posted victories over Brigham Young and Alabama early in the season, earning the win over the Crimson Tide on the road in Tuscaloosa. The Red Wolves finished 2007 with a 6-7 record, but went on a tear in the new year, closing out the season with a 14-5 finish and a run to the semifinals of the SBC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. Like always, the team was especially tough at home, posting a 13-2 record at the ASU Convocation Center that included a 9-0 record against Sun Belt Conference opponents. In the season the Red Wolves finished 21-13, advanced to the second round of the WNIT before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Wisconsin, and continued to build on their already-impressive home record with a 14-2 mark at the ASU Convocation Center. The Red Wolves posted home victories over NCAA Tournament participants Oklahoma State and Louisiana-Lafayette, Southeastern Conference member Alabama and WNIT participants South Dakota State and Murray State. In all, 14 of the Red Wolves 34 games during the season were against teams that played in the NCAA or WNIT tournaments. The Red Wolves also reached the 10-victory milestone quicker than any other team in ASU history, picking up their 10th win of the season Jan. 3, 2007, and their 21-win total equaled the highest in Boyer s eight seasons. Under Boyer s guidance, several individual records fell during the season as well. Seniors Adrianne Davie and Rudy Sims rewrote the Red Wolves record books, with Davie shattering the career blocked shots record with 132 and the career rebounding record with 1,147. Sims set a new mark in career assists with 548 and became the first ASU player in over a decade to record a triple-double when she scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists in a overtime victory at Louisiana-Lafayette. Davie was named All-Sun Belt Conference for the fourth straight season, while Sims earned the honor for the third straight year. Senior Ali Carter became the 16th member of the career 1,000-point club. During the season, the Red Wolves posted a overall record against a schedule that included nine NCAA Tournament teams, and three that participated in the WNIT. A-State advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and Davie earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the third straight season. Davie also joined the ASU 1,000-point club, along with Sims and senior Amber Abraham. In the season, ASU put together a program-best 10- game Sun Belt Conference winning streak, part of an 11-game win streak that was the fourth longest in Red Wolves history. The Red Wolves finished the season overall and in second place in the Sun Belt East Division at 11-3, giving Boyer his first 20-win season as head coach. Arkansas State advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT Tournament, defeating SEC powers Mississippi State and Arkansas along the way. The second round victory over Arkansas was played in front of a Convocation Center record crowd of 10, 892. The team s success earned Boyer his second straight Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Award. Boyer joined former Red Wolves coach Jerry Ann Winters as the only two ASU women s basketball coaches to win back-to-back coach of the year honors. Davie, Sims and Carter all earned All-Sun Belt honors following the season, marking the first time in Red Wolves history that three players earned all-conference honors in a single season. Davie earned honorable-mention all-conference honors as a true freshman, and Boyer was rewarded with his first conference Coach of the Year Award. The season capped a pair of rebuilding years and resulted in a strong finish and a trip to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. In his first season as head coach of the Red Wolves, Boyer led ASU to its first-ever Top 25 national ranking, 18 victories and a trip to the WNIT Tournament. The Red Wolves 18 victories gave Boyer the most wins by a first-year coach at ASU since Sara Wooley won 19 games in her first season in The Red Wolves opened the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games, including road wins over Southern Miss and nationally ranked Kansas, giving ASU a No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press poll the following week. The Red Wolves finished the season at overall, ending the year with the program s second straight invitation to the WNIT. Boyer came to ASU in 1995 after spending four seasons as an assistant for former head coach Jeff Mittie, who is now the head coach at TCU. A graduate of Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in education, Boyer was an assistant coach for the men's program for six seasons, including the last three, which he spent as an assistant with the women's program as well. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was a NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. The team made the Sweet 16 in As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Elite Eight of the national tournament. It also went undefeated through its MIAA schedule at In 1994, the team finished third in the nation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing with a 29-3 overall mark. In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach, Boyer and the Red Wolves earned a mark. The team went with a trip to the Women's NIT. In the process, ASU earned wins over nationally ranked Virginia and Kansas. The Red Wolves won 20 games in back-to-back seasons in the and seasons. The 1997 team opened the season with a victory over nationally ranked Illinois and had a 12-game winning streak during the season, the second longest in school history. The 1998 squad knocked off nationally ranked Western Kentucky at the Convocation Center and came within four points of scoring an upset over national power Louisiana Tech at home as well.
