EXT. FARM SKEDSMO - AFTERNOON (57, blonde) works moving hay bales onto the tractor. Sweat on his face. (Teens, blonde) Goth style, heavy make-up, skin-tight clothes. The slim girl walks out of the nearby farmhouse with a slam of the door. Where are you going? Since when do you care? I could use your help here today, Sarah. Sarah rolls her eyes and lets out an audible sigh. Girls don t do farming remember. Why don t you feed the pigs your self? Sarah walks away quickly and with a scowl. John drops his head and shakes it. He s at his wit s end. EXT. HVITSTEN ROAD - AFTERNOON A car drives on the narrow road by the beach. Indian music emanating from within. Sarah stands in front of the old white storehouse. The car pulls by her and slowly past. Sarah looks around suspiciously and then follows. She jumps in on the passenger side. She sees the driver (teens, Muscular, dark Complexion) and is transformed, a big smile and sweet as can be. I thought I d never see you again. I wasn t sure either, but I m not going to let anyone tell us we can t be together. I love you too much. She leans over, gives him a kiss and grabs his hand. (CONT D) Is your father okay with this?
2. INT. FARM - EARLIER I don t want to talk about it. I just had that argument with him. Blah blah blah. He just doesn t understand. John and Sarah in a heated exchange. John pleads to no avail. - failing three subjects in school. All for a boy! And one of them! You don t even know him. I forbid you to see him. Forbid! Do you hear me? He will never be one of us. When this silly rock music he is making fails, what then? Can you see him as a farmer? I can be the farmer. He ll work a normal job. What s wrong with that? No woman has ever been a farmer in this family and never will. Understand? It has been like that for generations. You are not going to change that. Oh? Do you really think you could stop me? Sarah throws her arms in the air and storms off. EXT. SØRKEDALEN - AFTERNOON Aerial view Sørkedalen. A car drives on the serpentine road below.
3. EXT. SØRKEDALEN - AFTERNOON From behind a fence, the camera follows Samuel s car as it drives along the foot of a hill. It stops and Samuel and Sarah get out. They admire the view holding hands. Where are we going? She gives him a quick kiss and flashes a mischievous smile. It s a surprise. With a giggle, she races up to the top. Samuel gives chase. He quickly stops and bends at the waist to catch his breath. I m a singer, not a runner. (straightens up) I hate running. Sarah looks down at Samuel and pulls a key from her pocket, waving it tauntingly in front of him. (CONT D) Okay, it s a key. What is it for? You really don t know? She laughs and continues running up the hill. He gives chase. Just wait until I catch you...arrhh EXT. FARM - AFTERNOON John feeds the cows. A picture message on his phone. He goes to the window. He looks like he has just lost a close one. His phone rings, he grabs it and the contact card says "Little Brother". John answers. Did you get the picture? He checks and sees a snap of Sarah in Samuel s car.
4. Unbelievable. I give up! You said you took care of this. It s complicated. After her mother left I haven t had the time to be the father I should. There is too much to do. It never stops. I am totally exhausted. If she ever marries him, there will be no one to take over the farm when you die. I ll take care of it... That s what you said when the police brought her home drunk too... I said I ll handle it! Okay! Bye! John re-pockets the cell phone. He thinks for a beat then starts feeding the cows like a madman. He yells loudly and throws off his work equipment and marches down to his INT. CABIN - CORRIDOR - AFTERNOON Through the doorway we see Samuel catch Sarah. She leads him to the entrance and puts the key in the lock. The door slowly opens and they enter. Hey. Why are we here? My friend Lisa let us use their cabin this week. Interesting! I promised I d send her a picture of you. She s dying to see what you look like. Say thanks to Lisa.
5. She films him on her phone. Thank you, Lisa! Sing something for her. Pleeaase. Samuel smiles coyly and then sings an Indian song. (CONT D) Cute huh? Thanks, Lisa, let me know if I can do anything for you. Bye. The couple smile and wave into the mobile camera. INT. CABIN - KITCHEN - AFTERNOON The fireplace bathes the room in a warm amber light as Sarah and Samuel enter the room. Wow. Do you like it? Like it? It is awesome! Do your father know about this place? No. He has not met Lisa and their family. I stayed with Lisa when I wanted to get away. They have been like a second family to me. Your father. He is a real problem. I feel like I see him everywhere. I am getting paranoid... Everyone knows he hates me. He ll accept you when he sees how much I love you. Give him a chance. I m the one who needs a chance.
6. He just doesn t understand you. He wants me to find someone that can help with the farm like he had to do when he married my mum. He dreams that someday my husband and I will take it over. Samuel walks away. Sarah follows him into the living room. I don t know anything about growing. I want us to live in a large city. I have told him to hire some people to help, but he is too proud. She grunts and shakes her head to relieve her frustration. (CONT D) Let s not talk about this now. Okay? Here we are 100% safe... Okay, Good. Let s order the food, I m starving. INT. S TRUCK - EVENING John drives looking out the window impatiently. He stares out at the beautiful landscape lost. He stops and pulls off to the side of the road. He makes a call. I can t remember where this Mountain lodge resort is. Did you put it in your GPS? I don t know how to use those damn things. Just tell me how to get there. Uncle is here now. We could meet you and take care of this together.
7. I m the oldest. I m supposed to help you not the other way around. Just give me some directions. I ll handle it. John drives again as Little Brother gives him directions. INT. CABIN - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT Sarah and Samuel kiss by the fire. Sarah smiles and laughs, her face lit up with enjoyment. Behind them, a dark silhouette is seen in the window. Do you love me? Why would you ask such a thing? You know I do. I can hardly breathe without you near. EXT. CABIN WINDOW - NIGHT John watches them kiss. His face shows disgust and anger. He turns his gaze to the ground and he walks away. EXT. CABIN - NIGHT John knocks on the door hard and excessively. Nobody answer. He looks around impatiently as he waits for an answer. He knocks again, even angrier. INT. CABIN - LIVING ROOM -NIGHT They hear the knocking and stop kissing. It must be the food. I ll get it. Okay, but I ll get it next time. Samuel cleans the table as Sarah walks to the Entrance. INT. CABIN - CORRIDOR - NIGHT Sarah opens the door slowly. She stands like frozen for a second. Papa? Why are you here?
8. No, the question is why are you here? No. I m just here to find a sweater for Lisa. She forgot it here last week. Is that a problem for you? Don t lie! I saw you through the window. Where is this chocolate browny? Were you spying on me? (laughs) I am 18, not 8. I can see whoever I want! John pushes in past her. You are just a child. Sarah shakes her head. I am not a child. Not a child huh? Well, how about I stop paying for your schooling then? Stop feeding you? Maybe you can get a job wiping asses at the retirement center. How would you like that? You can t. By law, you have to support me until I am done with high school. You won t finish high school if you keep letting him distract you from your studies! You are throwing your future away for... that. Now let me in. He pushes her aside gently but firmly with his forearm.
9. INT. CABIN - KITCHEN - NIGHT John walks like a madman into the kitchen through the corridor. (CONT D) Let me talk to this motherfucker from India myself. Where are you boy? (CONT D) I know you are in here. Samuel appears from behind the fireplace. John gets in Samuel s face, his fists balled up. Stop papa! Stop! Don t hurt him! You know what his kind do? He turns to her with pleading eyes. (CONT D) In their homeland? They rape their own woman. Look it up if you don t believe me. He shakes his head and laughs. (CONT D) That s the type of person you love. That is what you want to bring into the family. I am a Norwegian Mr. Olsen. I was born in this country, look. Samuel shows a picture on his mobile. Aashild? John grabs Samuel by his collar and pulls him face to face. (CONT D) What have you done to her? Raped her? You...!! John hits Samuel. Sarah tries to intervene.
10. Papa, no! It s his mother. Look! Åshild? His mother? John lets Samuel go and looks down pensive. She lives in Kongsberg now. She showed me her diary the other day. She wrote that you were her great love, kind, decent... John looks at Samuel with a pained expression. When my mother and her parents moved to India, you tried to keep in touch. Didn t you? But it was too hard. She told me how angry you were when she told you about my father. Samuel gets face to face with John. (CONT D) That s why you hate Indian s isn t it? That one of "us" took your love. John tries to look away but Samuel forces eye contact. We were together a long ago. Before you were born. I still love her... I love Samuel too, with all my heart. He makes me happier than I ever thought I could be. Mr. Olsen, Don t force us apart. Like you and my mother were, I love Sarah. John stares at them for a long beat. He mutters to himself. We were so happy... He stares at them. Sarah stares back with hopeful eyes.
11. Please, Papa! Tears in John s eyes. He gives her a hug and she melts into his arms. They separate and John stares at Samuel sternly. She is all I have. Take good care of her. Samuel nods respectfully. John walks out. Sarah turns to Samuel... They hold each other then Sarah looks up... We should have told him before, but my mum didn t want me to. They still have feelings for each other. Can you believe it? She was afraid my father would be jealous. It doesn t matter. All that counts is that we can be together as much as we want.. I m so happy... Sarah puts on some Indian music on her iphone. Aha... Do you remember the steps? Sarah smiles and nods. They dance side by side like in a Bollywood movie dance scene. EXT. CABIN - NIGHT The Indian music carries on as the end credits
