I første halvår er det laget 7 notat/artikler innenfor 3 hovedtema: Lastestimering og korttidsprognosering ved hjelp av AMS data: An integrated approach to data cleansing and load prediction Boye A. Research Overview Jonas Wäfler hd Candidate Department of Telematics The nature of the future power grid can only be guessed at the current moment of time. However, it seems to be save to assume that information and communication technology (ICT) will play an essential role in it, which introduces strong mutual dependencies between the power grid and the ICT infrastructure. The failing of either the power grid or the ICT infrastructure affects the other strongly. And even worse, the recovery from the failed state of one requires the working of the other. Therefore, there is a strong need for including the ICT infrastructure and its interplay with the power grid in the overall dependability analysis of the future power grid. The driving question for my research is: How can we make sure that the wide introduction of ICT in the power grid does not decrease the overall dependability of the power supply? Or in other Figure 1: Source Kirschen Bouffard 2009 [1] words, the path from the normal state to the combined abnormal state over B and C in Figure 1 should have a lower probability then the path from the normal state to the electrically abnormal state over A. To answer this question I focus on methods for modeling and analyzing dependability used in ICT and apply them to smart grid. Current Work Currently, I am working on a modeling approach for the dependability analysis, which combines structural and dynamic models. Structural models scale very well but have strong modeling assumptions and are not able to represent system dynamics. Dynamic models on the other hand, are very flexible and can be used to model dependencies and dynamics in the system but have the disadvantage of rapid growing complexity if the system becomes larger. The combination of both allows benefiting from their complementary advantages. This permits to achieve an analytical solution for some classes of problems, which are commonly solved by simulation. An analytical solution has the advantage over the simulation that the solution is exact and not only an approximation and once the analytical solution is derived, the numeric solution can be computed very quickly. Definition Terms like dependability, reliability and availability are used differently in ICT and in power engineering. We use the definition from [2] which is the standard in our field. It defines dependability of a system as the ability to avoid service failures, which are more frequent and more severe than is acceptable. It comprises several quantifiable attributes among others availability and reliability, which are defined as readiness for correct service and continuity of correct service, respectively. By ICT we refer to all information and communication technologies including classic process control systems such as SCADA. Nyhetsbrev nr 2-2012 Side 4 av 6
Research Overview Kornschnok Dittawit hd Candidate Department of Telematics Home Energy Management System The future power grid calls for involvement of various stakeholders including the demand side or the customers. Customers which could act either as consumers or producers need to adapt to the change and shift their power usage behaviors. To encourage and motivate such adjustments, incentives to customers will be needed. One effective approach which is likely to be in effect in the near future is the inclusion of management functions and decision support features in household appliances as well as the introduction of in-home sensors. With the increased awareness of power utilities and appliance manufacturers, a well-placed foundation will be needed to ensure function extensibility and interoperability among all newly produced devices. The objective of this research is to design a Home Energy Management System (Home EMS) that will allow customers to monitor and control energy usage as well as to define rules and policies to support day-to-day energy use. The designed Home EMS should follow existing standards and practices such as IEC61968-11: Common Information Model extensions for distribution and Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) framework.
