RENMIN UNIVERSITY OF CHINA Renmin University of China (RUC) is a comprehensive research university focusing on humanities and social sciences. Established in 1937 during the Anti-Japanese War, it was renamed later the North China United University and North China University. Renmin University of China was officially established in Ever since it was established in 1937, the RUC has established a great reputation for academic excellence in teaching and research in social sciences and humanities. The University now comprises 22 schools of different disciplines, which offers 63 undergraduate programs, 158 postgraduate programs, and 104 doctoral degree programs. The RUC is also home to a wide range of research centers and 15 transitional centers for post-doctoral fellows. In the latest appraisal of key disciplines of national institutions of higher education organized by the Ministry of Education, seven disciplines of the RUC rank top among all national institutions of higher education in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the total number ranks the third among all national institutions of higher education. The University teaches over 20,000 students every year, including nearly 1,600 international students from 80 countries. Renmin University of China attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. The University maintains academic links with more than 160 institutions and universities in more than 40 countries. 4 Chinese Language Program 1. Introduction Chinese Language program provides language training to students of various Chinese levels. Students are assigned to beginners, intermediate and advanced courses according to their results in the placement test. The mandatory courses are taught every weekday morning, including the following courses: Oral Chinese, Listening Comprehension, Reading, Intensive Reading, Literature Reading and Writing, Chinese for beginners, Ancient Chinese, Topics on Contemporary China. The optional courses are arranged every weekday afternoon and mainly for higher level students, including the following courses: Magazine Chinese, Chinese Culture, Chinese Human Geography, Ancient History of China, Contemporary and Modern History of China, Chinese Fictions, Modern Chinese Drama, Tang Poem and Song Lyrics, Business Chinese. The schooling system for Chinese Language program ranges from 1 semester to 2 years. Students attending classes regularly and passing exams can obtain their final grades and program certificate from the university. 2. Eligibility Applicants must be non-chinese citizens above the age of 18, in good health, and have obtained a high school diploma. 3. Application Schedule Application for Spring Semester Program (mid February-early July): November 15-December 31(previous year) Application for Autumn Semester Program (early September-mid January): April 15-May 31(present year) 4. Application Materials (1) Apply online ( and print out the completed Application Form for studying at RUC; or come to the International Students Office and fill in the hardcopy of the Application Form for studying at RUC. (2) Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English. (3) Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy). Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English. (4) One photocopy of the passport. (5) The applicants who are already in China should provide a photocopy of valid Visa or Residence Permit. (6) Application fee of RMB (non-refundable) Please submit the application materials listed above to the International Students Office by post or in person. Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed. 5. Admission The International Students Office will review all the application materials, and upon acceptance, the International Students Office will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) in January for spring program or in June for autumn program. 6. Tuition Fee RMB per semester (teaching materials are not included), which must be paid in full on the day of registration. 4

5 Pre-University Program 1. Introduction Pre-university program comprises two semesters (September-next July). After completing the program, students enrolled in the preuniversity program who get good grades and successfully pass the college entrance examination will be admitted to the undergraduate programs. Those who cannot meet the college entrance requirement can obtain their final grades and program certificate from the university. 2. Eligibility Applicants must be non-chinese citizens above the age of 18, and have obtained a high school diploma, an excellent academic record, a certificate of HSK level 5 or above. (3) Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy). Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English. (4) Certificate of HSK level 5 or above (original copy or notarized photocopy). (5) One photocopy of the passport. (6) The applicants who are already in China should provide a photocopy of valid Visa or Residence Permit. (7) Application fee of RMB (non-refundable) Please submit the application materials listed above to the International Students Office by post or in person. Applications with incomplete materials will not be processed. 3. Application Schedule March 20-April Application Materials (1) Apply online ( and print out the completed Application Form for studying at RUC; or come to the International Students Office and fill in the hardcopy of the Application Form for studying at RUC. (2) Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English. 5. Admission The International Students Office will review all the application materials, and interview the applicants in late May or early June. The name list of applicants admitted will be released in two week after the interview. Upon acceptance, the International Students Office will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) in June. 6. Tuition Fee RMB (teaching materials are not included), which must be paid in full on the day of registration. 5

6 Junior visiting Student 1. Introduction A junior visiting student may take courses at the undergraduate level offered by the relevant department. The schooling system for junior visiting students ranges from 1 semester to 1 year. Junior visiting student successfully finishing the study can obtain a non-degree certificate of study and official transcripts from the university. 2. Eligibility Applicants must be non-chinese citizens that have completed at least two years of study at their home institution with a Chinese proficiency equivalent to HSK level 6 or above. 3. Application Schedule Application for Spring Semester Program (mid February-early July): November 15-December 31(previous year) Application for Autumn Semester Program (early September-mid January): April 15-May 31(present year) 4. Introduction Visiting students enrolled in the advanced study program may take courses at the graduate level and do research under the supervision of a professor in the relevant department. Please note that previous study in the same or related area is required as a condition of entry. The schooling system for visiting students in the advanced study program ranges from 1 semester to 1 year. Visiting students in the advanced study program successfully finishing the study can obtain a non-degree certificate of study and official transcripts from the university. 2. Eligibility Applicants must be non-chinese citizens with a master degree or above and a Chinese proficiency equivalent to HSK level 7 or above. 3. Application Schedule Application for Spring Semester Program (mid February-early July): November 15-December 31(previous year) Application for Autumn Semester Program (early September-mid January): April 15-May 31(present year) 4.
