ABOUT PRIMITIVE TIDER Primitive tider («Primitive Times») was established in 1998. The name emphasises, on the one hand, our research historical roots, as it stems from archaeologist Haakon Shetelig s seminal book Primitive tider i Norge ( Primitive Times in Norway ), published in 1922. On the other hand, the name communicates the role of the journal in today s society: many perceive archaeology as an activity with little consequence for current affairs. The name ironizes the intended function of the journal in public debate; it is a purely academic publication. Today, Primitive tider is an independent scientific journal run on a voluntary basis. It upholds a double blind peer review, and it is rated a level 1 journal by The Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions (Universitetets- og høgskolerådet) 1. While maintaining a high academic standard, a main purpose for the journal is to provide a publication channel for students and young archaeologists with limited writing experience. We aim to support the publication of these authors ideas and results, hopefully without damaging the joy of either writing or researching. This also contributes to make available research results that would otherwise end up as unpublished work on university library shelves. In aiming to be a publication channel for those young and unestablished, the journal is open to contributions from both the unexperienced and the established researcher who wish to present work that emphasises the research process and contributes to explore the production of knowledge. Primitive tider publishes one issue a year. It includes assorted individual and thematic articles, academic debates, books and exhibition reviews, and shorter reports (not peer-reviewed/level 1). We encourage Scandinavian authors to write in these languages (Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish), but English contributions are also welcome. All authors should maintain a high standard of academic language. Authors have to provide copy editing when necessary. 1 AUTHOR DETAILS Primitive tider requires the following information about the author: Full name Email and telephone number Full name of home institution (the official name(s) of the institution(s) that are to be credited, if needed with necessary specifications of department, as well as street address and email address (if applicable) 2 CONTRIBUTIONS Primitive tider accepts independent articles, thematic articles, debate articles, debate comments, report and book and exhibition reviews. Contributions may be submitted as Word or RTF files. Figures and tables are submitted as separate files. We encourage Scandinavian authors to write in their own language (Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish), but English contributions are also welcome. All authors should maintain a high standard of academic language. Authors have to provide copy editing when necessary. To facilitate submission Primitive Tider accepts first versions of articles that are not formatted according to the journals author guidelines. If the article is accepted, it is the responsibility of the author to make necessary adjustments following the guidelines before submitting final version. Photos must have a resolution of 300 dpi. Photos and figures can be printed with a width of either 68,5 or 142 mm (the latter is the full width of the page), and a maximum height of 198 mm. Photos count as figures and must be numbered in the order they occur in the text. Specify in the text where the figures should occur. Send figures as separate files with names indicating their placement in the text: Figure 1, Figure 2, and so on. 3.9 TABLES Tables are sent as separate files and must be given names with sequential numbering according to their placement in the text. Specify in the text where the tables should be included. Tables can be printed with a width of either 68,5 or 142 mm (the latter is the full width of the page), and a maximum height of 198 mm. 3.10 FOOTNOTES Footnotes can be used but should be limited to an absolute minimum.
