However, the offense could not put any drives together with only 132 yards of total offense in the game. The Yellow Jackets pulled away in the fourth quarter with 17 points, including an 88-yard touchdown pass from Jaybo Shaw to Demaryius Thomas. The media Will Call is located at the West Gate of Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke Radio Network A state-wide radio audience follows all the action of Duke football on The Duke Radio Network. The network provides in-depth pregame coverage, live play-by-play of all the action, and the post-game press conferences straight from the locker room to stations via satellite each game. The one-hour tailgate show, hosted by John Roth, is broadcast live from the Blue Devil Tailgate Terrace at home games. Two-time Broadcaster of the Year Bob Harris, the voice of the Blue Devils for the past 32 seasons, calls all the action for Duke fans each game. He was inducted into the Stanly County (N.C.) Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Analyst Wes Chesson joins Harris in the booth each game and is in his 29th season providing color commentary for Duke games. Chesson, an All-ACC receiver at Duke from 1968-70, still holds fi ve school receiving records, hauling in 164 catches for 2,399 yards during his playing days. He went on to play with the NFL s Atlanta Falcons (1971-73) and Philadelphia Eagles (1973-74). In December of 2000, Harris and Chesson were selected to work the 64th annual Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas in Charlotte, N.C. Vincent Rey returned a fumble 37 yards for a score in a victory over Navy. Last season the Blue Devils had one defensive touchdown, a 24-yard fumble return for a score by Leon Wright against Georgia Tech. Defense Dominates Navy In Second Half Trailing 24-20 at halftime, the Blue Devils defense came out in the second half and shut down the Navy offense. The Midshipmen only tallied 130 total yards, 36 rushing yards and seven points in the second half. Navy was also only 2-of-8 on third down and did not reach the redzone during the second half. Of the 130 total yards following halftime, 68 came on a passing touchdown at the end of the third quarter. Walter Camp National Def. Player Of The Week Senior linebacker Michael Tauiliili was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week following the Virginia game where he posted a careerhigh 16 tackles to go with an interception, caused fumble and fumble recovery. Tauiliili led the Blue Devils in tackles for the fourth straight game with nine solo stops and a quarterback pressure. Duke Defense Forces Six UVA Turnovers The Blue Devils defense forced six turnovers in a win over Virginia with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Five of the six turnovers came in the second half with Duke scoring three touchdowns following a turnover. Michael Tauilili recorded an interception, caused fumble and fumble recovery to lead the defense. Jabari Marshall returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown. Glenn Williams and Leon Wright each added an interception while Catron Gainey recovered a fumble. Bulk Of Defense Returns The Blue Devils returned 10 starters from last season, including the entire front seven. From the defense, Duke returns 82 percent of its tackles, 84 percent of its tackles for loss, 80 percent of its sacks, 91 percent of its interceptions, 82 percent of its pass breakups, 85 percent of its quarterback hurries, 86 percent of its fumble recoveries, 64 percent of its forced fumbles and 75 percent of its blocked kicks. On the year Jones has punted 27 times for 1,159 yards with 10 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He got off to a great start to the season, leading the nation with a 53.5 yards per punt average after the James Madison game. Jones had four punts for 214 yards against the Dukes with two of his four punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He also booted a career-long 68-yard punt in the second quarter. Against Navy he averaged 42 yards per punt with two of his three kicks placing the opponent inside the 20-yard line. Against Virginia he had eight punts for a 43.6-yard average with a long of 57 and three downed inside the 20- yard line. In Duke s last game at Georgia Tech, Jones placed two punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded a 60-yard punt.

He is now 7-of-11 overall on fi eld goal attempts for his career after making kicks of 27, 21, 38, 46 and 20 yards in the fi rst four games. His 7.5 points per game rank fourth in the ACC among kickers. Maggio Boots Career Long Field Goal Nick Maggio made a career-long 46-yard fi eld goal in the fi rst quarter of the Navy game to give Duke a 10-7 lead. The kick was the fi rst attempt over 40 yards in for Maggio. He is now 2-of-4 from 40 yards or more in his career with his previous career long a 40-yard fi eld goal against Georgia Tech last season. On the year Maggio has made fi ve of his six fi eld goal attempts. Sugran Kicks 52-Yard Field Goal Senior kicker Joe Surgan attempted his fi rst fi eld goal of the season at the end of the second half in the Navy game and put it through the uprights for a career-long 52-yard fi eld goal. The kick matches Brent Garber s 52-yard fi eld goal against in 2002 as the eighth longest made fi eld goal in school history. Surgan s previous career long was a 49-yard attempt against in 2005. First Time Starters Three freshmen have start for the Blue Devils this season. Redshirt freshman Kyle Hill and true freshman Johnny Williams each started against James Madison in the opener while true freshman Matt Daniels started at safety for the fi rst time against Virginia. Sophomore Eddie Morgan drew his fi rst career start at safety against Northwestern. Sophomore tight end Brett Huffman earned his fi rst starting nod against Virginia. Playing For The First Time Several players have played their first collegiate snap this season. True freshman Trent Mackey, Jay Hollingsworth, Lee Butler, Matt Daniels, Donovan Varner and Johnny Williams have all seen playing time. Redshirt freshmen Chris Shannon, Garrett Utt, Kyle Hill and Charlie Hatcher played for the fi rst time against James Madison along with sophomore Robert Drum and senior Ryan McFadyen, who played four years of lacrosse for the Blue Devils. Eriks Reks played for the fi rst time against Virginia. Captains Duke announced its four captains for the football season with two offensive captains and two defensive captains. On offense, senior running back Re quan Boyette and senior tight end Tielor Robinson were voted captains by their teammates. The squad voted senior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili and junior outside linebacker Vincent Rey as defensive captains. Coin Toss Duke s opponents have won the coin toss in all fi vegames this season. James Madison, Northwestern, Navy, Virginia and Georgia Tech all won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Duke received the fi rst kickoff in each game, scoring a touchdown on the fi rst possession against both Northwestern and Navy.

Brothers In-Law This past summer senior wide receiver Ryan Wood married the former Erin Pridemore of Buford, Ga. Erin s younger brother Matt Pridemore is a sophomore teammate of Wood and is also a wide receiver. Brotherly Love The Blue Devils have four sets of brothers, including offensive coordinator Kurt Roper and running backs coach Zac Roper on the coaching staff. Senior tight end Tielor Robinson is joined on the roster by two family members as fi rst cousins Colin and Cameron Jones are redshirt freshman for Duke. Also with freshman Paul Asack coming to Durham, he joins his older brother Zack Asack to give the Blue Devils three sets of brothers. The Duke Family Connection Senior tight end Tielor Robinson, along with his two fi rst cousins Cameron and Colin Jones, has signifi cant ties to the Duke football program. Robinson s uncles Cedric and Walter Jones enjoyed outstanding careers for the Blue Devils. Cedric Jones is the father of Cameron and Colin and played from 1978-81. He caught 99 career passes for 1,732 yards (7th all-time at Duke) and 21 touchdowns (3rd). He earned second team All-America honors as a senior and spent nine seasons with the NFL s New England Patriots. Walter Jones is the uncle of the three current Duke players. He played from 1988-91 and had 119 receptions (10th all-time at Duke) for 1,968 yards (6th) and 17 TDs (t4th) and was on Duke s 1989 ACC title squad. Robinson spent two years at Army before transferring to Duke prior to last season, and then sat out the 2005 campaign due to NCAA regulations. While with the Black Knights, Robinson rushed 114 times for 548 yards and fi ve touchdowns while catching 34 passes for 297 yards and two scores. He earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors after accounting for 193 all-purpose yards and fi ve TDs against Cincinnati in 2004. Robinson s mother, Sandra Robinson, is the sister of Cedric and Walter. Childhood Friends Forced to attend different high schools in Houston didn t alter the close-knit relationship between Vince Oghobaase and Michael Tauiliili. Friends since childhood, the pair journeyed together to Durham and will embark on their third season starting together on the Duke defense. Last season Oghobaase led the team with 4.5 sacks while Tauiliili paced the squad with 13 tackles for loss to go along with 108 total tackles. International Ties Along with the two players from Sweden on the Duke roster, Pontus Bondeson and Marcus Lind, the Blue Devils also are represented by Chris Rwabukamba and George Pearkes of Canada. Swedish Connection The Duke roster features two players Pontus Bondeson and Marcus Lind who hail from Sweden. Members of the recruiting class of 2006, Lind, who played one year of prep football at St. Aquinas High School in Florida, committed to the Blue Devils and then informed the Duke coaching staff about his fellow countryman. Both redshirt freshmen, Bondeson and Lind are expected to compete for playing time in on the offensive line. McFadyen Adds Second Sport After lettering four years on the lacrosse team, senior defensive end Ryan McFadyen joined the football program in the spring of and was awarded a scholarship prior to the start of the season. A reserve tight end, McFadyen has seen game action on special teams this season. From 2005-08, the Mendham, N.J., native helped the Blue Devil lacrosse squad to an overall record of 58-10 with three ACC regular season championships, two ACC Tournament crowns and three trips to the NCAA Final Four. McFadyen, a defenseman, has played in 56 career games with 25 starting assignments and is expected to play his fi fth and fi nal season of eligibility in the spring of 2009. Duke Graduate Wide receiver Ryan Wood has already received his undergraduate degree from Duke. After graduating in May,, with a degree in sociology and a markets and management certifi cate, Wood is now enrolled in the humanities graduate program while he fi nishes out his collegiate football career with the Blue Devils. Wood is also the holder on Duke s placekicking unit. Roster Breakdown The Duke roster features 22 seniors, 14 juniors, 30 sophomores, 11 redshirt freshmen and 23 true freshmen. The Blue Devils are represented by a total of 22 states along with two foreign countries in Canada and Sweden. Georgia is called home by the most Blue Devils, 15, followed by Florida (14), (13) and Texas (10). Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game The ACC will host the fourth championship game on December 6, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by Dr Pepper, the game will pit the champions from the Atlantic and Coastal divisions and be televised live by ESPN on ABC Sports. With a capacity of 65,000, Raymond James Stadium is the home of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Opened in September, 1998 it features a natural grass surface that has been awarded as the best fi eld in the NFL six times. ACC Player of the Year Honors Duke boasts more ACC Player of the Year honorees 10 than any other school in the league. Duke s fi rst ACC Player of the Year was Jerry Barger in 1954. They had back-to-back winners in 1971 and 1972. In the 1980 s the Blue Devils had four ACC Player of the Year winners and Robert Baldwin became the league best 10th recipient in 1994. David Cutcliffe Head Coach Cutcliffe was named Duke s 21st head football coach on December 15, Cutcliffe was honored as the 2003 SEC Coach of the Year after leading the Ole Miss Rebels to a 10-3 record, a share of the league Western Division title and a 31-28 victory over Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl Cutcliffe secured a record of 44-29 (.603) as the head coach at Ole Miss from 1999-04 Cutcliffe mentored each of the past two Super Bowl MVPs in Peyton Manning (Tennessee) and Eli Manning (Ole Miss) During Cutcliffe s six seasons at Ole Miss, the Rebels set school single-season records for total offense, passing offense and scoring offense while winning twice at both Auburn and LSU, securing consecutive victories over Florida and defeating both Arkansas and South Carolina on three occasions In 2006-07, Cutcliffe helped Tennessee win 19 games with two appearances in the Outback Bowl In, Cutcliffe and the Volunteers went 10-4, captured the SEC Eastern Division crown and defeated Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl as quarterback Erik Ainge earned game MVP honors Cutcliffe s offenses at Ole Miss registered a ledger of 28-6 when scoring 30 or more points... The Blue Devils have posted a 2-7 overall record in these games. 1945: Army 48, Duke 13 In a game played at the Polo Grounds pitting top-ranked Army against 19th-ranked Duke, Doc Blanchard ran six times for 64 yards and one touchdown, caught a 59-yard pass from Glenn Davis for a touchdown, and had six kickoffs for 324 yards. 1946: Army 19, Duke 0 Glenn Davis led his Army team and its 23-game winning streak against Duke at the Polo Grounds before a sellout crowd of 59,031. Davis ran for 70 yards on 16 carries and caught two touchdown passes of 14 and 30 yards on the day. 1955: Duke 20, Ohio State 14 Howard Cassady and his 1954 Rose Bowl Champion Buckeyes built a 14-0 lead, but Duke rallied for the victory. Cassady ran 11 times for 40 yards and was just one-of-fi ve passing with two interceptions. Cassady s highlight of the day came early on a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown. 1960: Duke 19, Navy 10 Joe Bellino and Navy came into Durham with an 8-0 record and left with their fi rst loss of the season. Bellino ran 20 times for 62 yards and had four receptions for 65 yards. It was the only game of the season that Bellino failed to cross the goal line. 1963: Navy 38, Duke 25 Roger Staubach led second-ranked Navy to victory by completing seven-of-14 passes for 122 yards with one interception. He ran 12 times for 72 yards and scored on a fi ve-yard run. 1976: Pittsburgh 44, Duke 31 Tony Dorsett ran 31 times against the Blue Devils for 129 yards and one touchdown. 1980: South Carolina 20, Duke 7 George Rogers ran for 224 yards on 36 carries in Columbia as South Carolina defeated Duke, 20-7. 1993: Florida State 43, Duke 7 Charlie Ward kicked off his senior campaign in Durham leading his top-ranked Seminoles to victory over the Blue Devils. Ward was 22-of-31 passing for 272 yards and had no interceptions. He threw touchdown passes of 36 and three yards, and ran for an 11-yard score. 2000: Florida State 63, Duke 14 Chris Weinke had his most productive game of the season against the Blue Devils, completing 37-of-47 passes for 536 yards and fi ve touchdowns. The 536 yards passing marked the most ever by a Florida State quarterback in a single game.
