at l i n d s ay w i l d l i f e Experience Lindsay s newest Animal Ambassador: A Peregrine Falcon Meet our handsome peregrine falcon who came to Lindsay Wildlife this summer from the Wildlife Center at Audubon Society of Portland, Oregon. Unable to fly because of a badly damaged right wing, he weighs in at just over one pound. An important and amazing bird of prey to watch, peregrine falcons are known in the wild as formidable hunters with a swift dive, going as fast as 200 miles per hour. Lindsay Wildlife s two-year old male has adjusted very well to his life here. He has a good appetite and an expressive personality. He now lives indoors along with the other animal ambassadors and can be heard making his signature boisterous calls! Come meet him soon! C E L E B R A T E! Fa m i ly & A d u lt P r o g r a m s Fall Tarantula Hike Age 6 Adult Explore the habitat of local tarantulas along the north face of Mount Diablo with an experienced naturalist. Fall is the time for these eight-legged, carnivorous yet docile creatures to come out of hiding in search of mates. The hike covers a distance of 2 miles, hiking shoes and bottled water are highly recommended. Additional cost: $6 for parking at the visitor s center. Map and directions will be emailed with your registration details. Multiple Sunday hikes are available throughout September and October, please register for a specific date. This Pennington Ambassador workshop is available to all classroom teachers! During the workshop lead by two expert bird watchers and docents at Lindsay Wildlife, you will learn tips and receive resources to help you get your students outdoors and excited about birds. Lindsay is looking for people from various backgrounds with unique talents, skills and passions. Without help from our volunteers, Lindsay would not be able to fulfill the mission of connecting people with wildlife. There are many opportunities for you! Our volunteers give their time to support wildlife in a variety of ways caring for our wildlife hospital patients and live animal ambassadors, educating visitors of all ages about wildlife and nature, and helping out with special projects such as gardening, maintenance and administrative tasks. If interested in becoming a Lindsay volunteer, you must first attend our Volunteer Opportunities Class. At this class you will learn more about Lindsay s many volunteer opportunities and how to get involved based on your skills, interests and schedule. Registration is strongly recommended. w i l d l i f e r e h a b i l i tat i o n h o s p i ta l Lindsay Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital is the oldest and one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation centers in the entire United States. The hospital is a recognized national leader and pioneer of wildlife rehabilitation methods. Established in 1970, hospital staff and volunteers treat more than 5,500 animals each year. This year, in 2015 we are on track to have a record-breaking number of patients. We can t help these animals without your assistance. The average cost for a quick-release patient is $100. The hospital relies entirely on volunteers as well as cash and in-kind donations. Support the needs of our wild patients.
