RFC35R RATE COMPASS WITH OPTIONAL RFC35 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The RFC35 provides analogue sine/cosine output from RFC35R Rate Compass. The output signal is ±2V with 2.5V reference (from autopilot). Inserting the PCB Open the compass and insert the SIN PCB into the slots in the housing. Make sure the edge connector on the fits into the matching connector on the Main PCB. It might be necessary to loosen the Main PCB screws in order to align it in right position. Then fasten the screws after the has been inserted. Micro-controller GND COS V REF (2.5V) SIN (VSYST-) (VSYST+) - (BUS-) + (BUS+) Micro-controller chip The Rate PCB must have a chip marked V1R3 (or V1R2A) in order to work with the. A V1R3 chip will be supplied with the for a limited periode of time. If not supplied, it can be ordered from your Dealer/Distributor as; P/N 22082432 - V1R3 s.w. Use appropriate tool to remove the chip from the socket. RFC35RN. V1R3 is standard supply in all RFC35R Rate Compasses from s.n. 463E12. Installation The RFC35R contains a magnetic fluxgate sensor and great care should be taken when deciding the mounting location. The heading sensor must be mounted at a location where there is a minimum of magnetic interference. FWD Note! To minimize the effect of heeling errors, installation on the fly bridge or in the mast is not recommended. The RFC35R compass can be deck or bulkhead mounted with the cable gland pointing aft. 22083166B 1
RFC35R Rate Compass + RFC35SIN Select a location that provides a solid mounting place free from vibration, and as close to the vessel's centre of roll and pitch as possible, i.e. close to the water line. It should be as far as possible from disturbing magnetic influences such as engines (min. 2 meters), ignition cables, other large metal objects and particularly the autopilot drive unit. Note! The compass should be deck mounted to allow for mechanical alignment. In an AP45 system which has compass offset adjust, bulkhead mounting may be preferred. The compass face plate on the RFC35N is the TOP. Never mount it upside down! Level the compass as close to horizontal as possible. Use the supplied mounting kit and drill holes through the centre of the slots. Electrical connection Use the Robnet cable on the RFC35R and rewire the cable inside the compass. Use the enclosed connectors for supply and signal connection. The 2 pole connector plugs into the left side of the Robnet terminal () and the 4 pole connector plugs into the sin/cos terminal at the Main PCB. Cut off the Robnet connector and crimp on the enclosed Amp pins. Insert the pins in the AP45 compass connector shell as shown. Installation instructions output Fit the spare cable gland from the installation kit and run a shielded cable with twisted pair(s) through the gland. Plug the spare 4-pole connector into of the Rate PCB and connect the wires to terminals 1 () and 2 (). Connect the twisted pair of wires to the listener (RX) and secure the shield to chassis gnd. Calibration and alignment Be aware that autopilots with older software versions will not confirm by code or message in the display when calibration is completed. Dockside check-out Switch on the autopilot by selecting COMPASS (MANUAL)-mode on the autopilot control unit. The autopilot display will display the digital heading from the RFC35R. Turn the heading sensor slowly and check that the readout counts continuously up or down in the correct direction. The calibration and alignment is carried out during sea-trial. Calibration The calibration is carried out during sea trial. The sea state should be calm. 1. Switch on the autopilot by selecting COMPASS (MANUAL) mode to provide mains to the heading sensor. 2. Make two 360 degrees turns to starboard within 5 minutes after switch on. Make sure the boat passes 3 times through North (see figure). Ensure smooth and slow movements. A minimum of roll and acceleration will give the best result. As soon as north is passed for the 3rd time, there will be a confirmation in the autopilot display (see below). Providing you have an AP45 with software version V1R3 or V1R4 (latest), you will read "Fluxgate compass compensated" in the info display when the calibration is completed. Press alarm button to reset. AP200 and AP2500 will display code F81, however, AP200 needs software version V3R4 or later to display this code. For older AP200 software versions and AP9MKII/MK3 there are no verification code. However, when passing through north for the 3rd time, the course display shows 045 for a short moment (less than a second). If you sail your boat more than 15-20 degrees north or south of the latitude where the compass has been calibrated, the calibration procedure should be repeated. 22083166B 3
RFC35R Rate Compass + RFC35SIN Alignment The calibration procedure must have been carried out. Autopilot to COMPASS (MANUAL)-mode. Steer the boat on a known heading. On AP200 and AP2500 models, slightly turn the heading sensor until the correct heading readout is obtained on the autopilot display. Fasten the tightening screws. V1R3 brikken vil i en begrenset periode leveres sammen med SIN kortet. Hvis den ikke følger med kan den bestilles fra forhandler på art. nr. 22082432 - V1R3 s.w. RFC35RN. Bruk egnet verktøy til å ta brikken ut av sokkelen. V1R3 leveres som standard i alle RFC35R Rate kompass fra s.n. 463E12. Installasjon RFC35R inneholder en magnetisk fluxgatesensor og visse forholdsregler må derfor tas ved valg av monteringssted. Enheten må monteres på et sted med minimal magnetisk påvirkning. FWD Note! For å minimalisere krengningsfeil anbefales ikke å montere kompasset på fly bridge eller i mast. RFC35R kan monteres på skott eller bord med kabeluttaket pekende akterover. 22083166B 5
RFC35R Rate kompass + RFC35SIN Velg et stødig monteringsunderlag fritt for vibrasjoner så nær skjærings-punktet mellom rull- og stampaksen som mulig (nær vannlinjen) og så langt som mulig fra magnetfelt fra motor (min. 2 m), startkabler, større metallgjenstander og spesielt autopilotens drivenhet. Note! Kompasset må monteres mest mulig horisontalt og aldri opp-ned. Montering på en jevn horisontal flate vil forenkle den mekaniske justeringen. Bruk vedlagte monteringssett og bor huller gjennom senteret i de elipseformede festehullene. Elektrisk tilkobling Bruk Robnet kabelen for RFC35R, men kobl om kabelen inne i kompasset. Bruk vedlagte plugger til spennings- og signaltilkobling. 2 pol kontakten plugges til venstre side av Robnet terminal () og 4 pol kontakten kobles til sin/cos terminalen på Main kortet. Kapp Robnet pluggen og krymp på vedlagte Amp stifter. Sett stiftene inn i kompasspluggen for AP45 som vist på tegningen. Installation instructions utgang Monter ekstra pakknippel fra installasjonsutstyret og legg en skjermet kabel med et par tvinnede ledninger gjennom nippelen. Plugg den ekstra 4-polige kontakten til på Rate kortet og kobl de to tvinnede ledningene til terminal 1 () og 2 (). Kobl andre enden av de tvinnede ledningene til listener (RX) og fest skjermen til sjassis jord. Kalibrering og justering Vær oppmerksom på at autopiloter med eldre programvare ikke gir en bekreftende kode eller melding i displayet ved utført kalibrering. Kontroll ved kai Slå på autopiloten ved å velge COMPASS (MANUAL) funksjon. Autopilotens kursdisplay viser nå digital kurs fra RFC35R. Drei kurssensoren sakte og kontroller at utlesningen teller kontinuerlig i riktig retning. Kalibrering og justering utføres under sjøprøve. Kalibrering Kalibrering av fluxgatekompasset utføres under sjøprøven. Sjøen må være rolig. 1. Slå på autopiloten ved å velge COMPASS (MANUAL) funksjon slik at kompasset får tilført spenning. 2. Utfør to 360 graders dreininger til styrbord innen 5 minutter. Sørg for at båten passerer tre ganger gjennom nord (se figur). Bevegelsen må være sakte og jevn. Best resultat oppnås ved minimal slingring og akselerasjon. Idet nord passeres for tredje gang vil det gis en bekreftelse i autopilotens display (se nedenfor). For AP45 med programvareversjon V1R3 eller V1R4 (seneste) vil info displayet vise "FLUXGATE KOMPASS KORRIGERT" når kalibreringen er utført Trykk ALARM knappen for å fjerne denne meldingen. AP200 og AP2500 viser kode F81, men AP200 må ha programvareversjon V3R4 eller nyere for å vise denne koden. Eldre programvareversjoner for AP200 serien og AP9MKII gir ikke slik bekreftelse, men i det båten passerer gjennom nord for tredje gang, vil kursdisplayet vise 045 i et kort øyeblikk (mindre enn 1 sekund). Dersom båten forflyttes mer enn 15-20 grader nord eller sør for den breddegrad hvor fluxgatekompasset ble kalibrert, må finkalibrering utføres på nytt. 22083166B 7
