8 7 PRINSIPPER OG DEFINISJONER Statistikken over fag og yrkesskoler gir opplysninger om skoleslag, elever og lærere m.v. pr.. oktober. For fagskoler for landbruket, som ikke begynner skoleåret før etter. oktober, gjelder statistikken pr. 3. oktober. I enkelte tabeller er det i tillegg til tall for tellingsåret gitt totaltall for de to foregående Ar. Statistikken omfatter fag og yrkesskoler som var i gang på tellingstidspunktet og som i skole Aret har minst 300 timer undervisning. Med i statistikken er også skoler som gir kombinert brev og klasseundervisning, når timetallet er minst 300. Unntatt er skoler som underviser i militære disipliner. Som grunnlag for oppgaveinnsamlingen nyttes Kirke og undervisningsdepartementets adresseliste for skoleverket. Statistikken bygger på oppgaver som er innhentet på fire ulike skjemaer, ett for fagskoler i landbruket, ett for merkantile skoler, ett for lærerskoler og ett for andre fag og yrkesskoler. Oppgavene er innhentet fra hver skole. Skolene gir summariske opplysninger om tallet på søkere og opptatte, tallet på elever på de enkelte kurs, elevenes fordeling etter klassetrinn, kjønn og alder, og opplysninger om lærerne. Søkere til flere skoler er telt med for hver skole de har søkt. Også når det gjelder tall for opptatte, vil samme person kunne bli telt flere ganger, dersom han har søkt og fått positivt svar på sin søknad fra flere skoler. Dette medfører at de utregnede opptaksprosenter som regel er lavere enn de faktiske opptaksmulighetene skulle tilsi. I tallet på lærerskoler er regnet med bare 4e skoler som er drevet som egne institusjoner. De lærerskoleklasser som finnes ved enkelte gymnas er ikke regnet med. Tallene for elever og lærere omfatter imidlertid også dem som hører til disse særskilte lærerskoleklasser. Spørsmålene om lærere er utformet i samsvar med lov om utdanningskrav for lærere av 6. juni 96. Rektorer, inspektører og vikarer er tatt med i statistikken, men ikke permitterte lærere.

9 8 PRINCIPLES AND DEFINITIONS The statistics relate to vocational schools with at least 300 hours of yearly instruction. Correspondence schools providing postal tuition combined with instruction in classes are included. Schools giving instruction in military subjects are not included. The statistics provide information about the schools, the teachers by sex, education etc., the number of applicants and pupils admitted, the number of pupils in different courses, and the pupils by sex, age, etc. The data refer to October in the school year. An exception is made, however, concerning agricultural schools, for which the data refer to 3 October. Persons applying for admission to more than one school, and applicants offered admission to more than one school, are counted once for each school. Actual admission ratios would therefore be somewhat higher than the published figures. The number of teachers includes headmasters and substitutes, but not teachers on leave.
