Crescendo: Opus13 m/vertavokvartetten s. 18 29. mai kl 18:00 www.crescendo-music.no Crescendo er et historisk samarbeid mellom Barratt Due musikkinstitutt, Festspillene i Bergen og Oslo-Filharmonien med formål å tilrettelegge for koblinger mellom morgendagens unge, klassiske utøvere og profesjonelle, nasjonale og utenlandske utøvere på høyeste nivå. Gjennom personlige møter, samspill og felles konsertopplevelser med mentorene, styrkes de unge talentenes selvbevissthet og kunstneriske identitet. Crescendo består av tre delprogrammer rettet mot unge solister, unge kammergrupper og unge orkestermusikere (Ung Filharmoni). Janine Jansen, født i Soest, Nederland, studerte hos Coosje Wijzenbeek, Philipp Hirschhorn og Boris Belkin. 13 år etter at hun grunnla den internasjonale kammermusikkfestivalen i Utrecht utnevnte hun i 2016 cellisten Harriet Krijgh til etterfølger som kunstnerisk leder. She regularly performs with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and gave the first performance of Michel van der Aa s Violin Concerto, which she has also performed with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Jansen has won numerous prizes, including four Edison Klassiek Awards, four ECHO Klassik awards, the German Record Critics Award, the NDR Music Prize, the Concertgebouw Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award. Highlights of her discography include works by Bartók, Brahms, Bach, Prokofiev, Beethoven, Britten, Mendelssohn, Bruch and Tchaikovsky. Her chamber music recordings include Schubert s String Quintet and Schönberg s Verklärte Nacht. As a mentor in the talent programme Crescendo in Norway she collaborated with a number of young musicians at the Bergen International Festival 2016. I 2007 begynte han ved Barratt Due musikkinstitutt i Oslo hvor han de siste årene har studert hos Stephan Barratt-Due. Stradivarius 1710 på generøst lån fra Anders Sveaas' Almennyttige Fond. Ludvig Gudim (born 1999, Oslo, Norway) started playing the violin at the age of five. From 2007, he was a student at the Barratt Due Institute of Music and in 2013 he travelled to New York City and participated in the Perlman Music Program, a summer programme with Itzhak Perlman for gifted young musicians. He has performed with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Vietnam National Symphonic Orchestra, Trondheim Soloists, Oslo Camerata and the Royal Norwegian Navy Band. Gudim is also a keen chamber musician and has performed with Itzhak Perlman, Henning Kraggerud, Lars Anders Tomter, Dora Schwarzberg and Ivry Gitlis among others. He won third prize in the 2014 Menuhin Competition, the world's leading international violin competition for players under the age of 22. In 2016 he won the Norwegian broadcaster NRK s Virtuoso competition and The Norwegian Soloist Prize. This Festival concert is a part of the Norwegian Soloist Prize. (Lysøen, 29 May ). She recently finished her studies at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin with Antje Weithaas. Kian Soltani, born in Bregenz, in Austria 1992 into a Persian family of musicians, was only 12 when he started studying with Ivan Monighetti at the Basel Music Academy. He made his solo debut at 19 in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein and at the Schubertiade in Hohenems. Soltani has won several prizes, holds a scholarship at the Mozart-Gesellschaft Dortmund and is a member of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. Orchestras Soltani has performed with include the Basel Sinfonietta, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a number of international festivals. He has since 2014 studied at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson. Brooklyn Rider made their Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall debuts in 2011. The same year, Philip Glass chose Brooklyn Rider to record his complete string quartets, which also included the world premiere recording of his Bent suite. Kvartettens diskografi inkluderer Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Debussy, Bartók, Nielsen, Asheim og Beethoven, samt Mozarts klarinettkvintett med Martin Fröst. Deres innspilling av Debussy og Grieg mottok Diapason d Or-prisen. The Vertavo String Quartet was formed in Norway in 1984. The quartet s discography includes Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Debussy, Bartók, Nielsen, Asheim and late Beethoven, as well as the Mozart Clarinet Quintet with Martin Fröst. Their Debussy and Grieg recording received the Diapason d Or. They have collaborated with many great musicians including Leif Ove Andsnes, Håkan Hardenberger, Martin Fröst, Sabine Meyer and Isabelle van Keulen. They recently undertook a quintet tour with the British pianist Paul Lewis. In 1995, they won First Prize at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition where they were also awarded the Audience Prize and the Critics Prize. In 2005, the quartet was honoured with the Grieg Prize Norway s highest recognition of musical excellence. Vertavo Quartet were Artistic Directors of Elverum Music Festival for many years and launched their own chamber music festival Vertavofestivalen in September 2016. 16 17

Kvartetten debuterte etter kort tid, både på landsdekkende radio og på Oslo Quartet Series, som en del av deres talentutviklingsprogram. I deltar kvartetten i Crescendos mentorprogram for unge kammergrupper. In 2014, four young musicians from the Barratt Due Institute of Music founded the Opus13 String Quartet. The quartet made their debut after just a few weeks both on national radio and in the Oslo Quartet Series. In the quartet is participating in Crescendo's mentoring programme for young chamber groups. Sonoko Miriam Welde (f. 1996) er fra Bergen, og begynte å spille fiolin i en alder av fem. I 2014 vant hun NRKs Virtuos og Den norske solistpris, og representerte Norge i Eurovision Young Musicians i Köln. Hun har opptrådt på Festspillene i Bergen ved flere anledninger, og på en rekke andre festivaler 18 19

Hun har studert ved Baratt Due musikkinstitutt, og studerer nå ved Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, Berlin, hos professor Kolja Blacher, og får ekstraundervisning fra Vilde Frang. I 2016 vant hun Statoilstipendet, og er tatt opp i Crescendos talentprogram, både som solist og med strykekvartetten Opus13. Sonoko spiller på en fiolin bygget av Alessandro Gagliano, 1714, utlånt av Dextra Musica. Sonoko Miriam Welde, (born 1996) is from Bergen, and began playing the violin at the age of five. In 2014, she won the Virtuos competition, arranged by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Norwegian Soloist Award, and represented Norway in the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Cologne. She has performed at the Bergen International Festival several times, and at many other festivals and concert halls. She has studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music, and is currently studying with Prof. Kolja Blacher at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, Berlin, while also receiving lessons from violinist Vilde Frang. In 2016, she won the Statoil scholarship. Sonoko is a participant in the Crescendo mentor programme, both as a soloist and with the string quartet Opus13. She plays a violin built by Alessandro Gagliano, 1714, on loan from Dextra Musica. Edvard Erdal (f. 1996) er fra Lillehammer og begynte å spille fiolin i en alder av fem. Nå studerer han med Stephan Barratt-Due ved Barratt Due musikkinstitutt. Han har vunnet flere kammermusikkonkurranser med ulike ensembler, og har gjort seg bemerket som en ivrig orkestermusiker, med opptredener som vikar Oslo-Filharmonien, Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester og Opera-orkesteret. Edvard Erdal (born 1996) comes from Lillehammer, started to play the violin at the age of five, and is currently studying with Stephan Barratt-Due at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. He has won several chamber music competitions with different ensembles, and has made himself noticed as an eager orchestral musician, with appearances as a substitute in both the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norwegian Opera Orchestra. Michael Grolid (f. 1997) bor i Ås og har spilt fiolin og bratsj i 10 år. Han er for tiden student ved Høyskolen på Barratt Due musikkinstitutt med Soon-Mi Chung som lærer. I tillegg til å spille bratsj, komponerer han også musikk, og i 2014 ble hans Overture for hardingfele og orkester fremført av Barratt Due Symfoniorkester i Den Norske Opera & Ballett. I 2015 var Grolid solist med Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester med sin egenkomponerte bratsjkonsert. Michael Grolid (born 1997) lives in Ås in Eastern Norway, and has played the violin and the viola for 10 years. He is currently attending the Young Talents programme at the Barratt Due Institute of Music, with Soon-Mi Chung as his teacher. He combines the viola with composing. In 2014, the Barratt Due Symphony Orchestra performed his Overture for Hardanger fiddle and orchestra in the Norwegian Opera and Ballet. In 2015, Michael appeared as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, playing his own viola concerto. Frida Tharaldsen Skaftun (f. 1995) kommer fra Stavanger, og begynte å spille cello i en alder av åtte. Hun studerer for tiden med Ole Eirik Ree ved Barratt Due musikkinstitutt. Frida har blitt tildelt flere priser og stipender, blant dem førstepriser i Ungdommens Musikkmesterskap, Shell-stipendet, og G9altstipendet. Frida Tharaldsen Skaftun (born 1995) comes from Stavanger. She started to play the cello at the age of eight. She is currently studying with Ole Eirik Ree at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. She has been awarded several prizes and scholarships, among them first prizes in the Norwegian Youth Competition, the Shell Scholarship, and the G9alt Scholarship.
