New framework system combining wood and polyurethane - Climate friendly and construction friendly! 1 14.06.2010 Presentasjons tittel Selskapsnavn
Background Iso3: New Norwegian building regulations (TEK 07) New regulations approved 1. feb 2007 Mandatory from 1. aug 2009 Revision of TEK, stricter requirements 2020: Passive houses 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014
Insulation capabilities Iso3 solves the TEK 07 requirements for walls (Kvalue of 0,18 W/m2K) with 200mm of ordinary insulation (lambda value of 0,037)! Avoids the building of thicker walls (with 250mm insulation) Not necessary to compensate the lack of insulation capability of an ordinary framework wall of 200mm from other building parts Solves the expected stronger requirements to come Example 1: Iso3 250 mm gives a K-value for the wall of 0,14 W/m2K For low energy houses Alternatively: Enables redistribution; windows areas may increase Example 2: Iso3 300 mm gives a K-value for the wall of 0,12 For zero emission buildings 47x95 mm 200 mm K=0,18 47x38 mm 47 x 200 mm 47x95 mm 250 mm K=0,14 47x38 mm Polyurethane is the best insulation material commonly used in the building industry Lambda value of the Iso3-polyurethane: 0,030 4 times better than dried wood 25% better than ordinary mineral based insulation wool (lambda 37) 47 x 250 mm
Iso3 eliminates the heat sink in studs and sills The polyurethane core of Iso3 eliminates the heat sink usually represented by the wooden framework Comparing ordinary Norwegian framework of 48x198mm with Iso3 47x200mm reduces the K- value from 0,22 to 0,18 This difference represents a reduced energy consumption of 42.000 kwh for a normal house over the building s life cycle
Strength/stability & certification Comprehensive research- and test programs have been carried out in order to develop a strong product All central characteristics of strength/stability are described in the certification by SINTEF Byggforsk The characteristics are highly dependable of the density and the chemistry of the polyurethane and some of the production parameters. The polyurethane is developed by BaySystems especially for giving a good adhesion to wood.
Environmental issues Hardened polyurethane has no negative health effect Commonly used in matresses, freezers and automobiles Not comprised of regulations for marking, classification, sale and storing of chemical products Polyurethane is not on the Norwegian authorities whatch lists (priority/substitution lists) Polyurethane is an oil product. Both the wood and the polyurethane contributes to carbon storage when used in buildings Iso3 has been certified with an Environmental Product Declaration from SINTEF Byggforsk Iso3-waste is treated as other combustible wastes, fully recovering the energy content at the end of the product life cycle When combusted, the energy released from the product is more than three times the energy used for producing Iso3, due to the fact that the wood is a renewable energy source Iso3 is an environmentally sound product, with a very good climate profile
Fire characteristics SINTEF Byggforsk Fire Laboratory: The polyurethane is built into the wall covered with inflammable mineral wool No conflicts according to present requirements or expected requirements to come Fire resistance REI 30 using different kinds of cladding/boards Fire resistance EI 60 with double gypsum Polyurethane is flammable, but does not melt, as EPS (expanded polystyren) does The fire gases from polyurethane are not more poisonous than the fire gases from pure wood Adding fire retardants into the polyurethane is not an option due to negative environmental impact
Product economy Iso3 is competitive to I-profiles and cheaper than building a double wall (i.e. a wall built with for example one framework of 200mm and a second of 50mm) Thinner walls give more space inside the building A house of 160m2 gets 3,6m2 more space using Iso3 200mm compared with using a wall with 250mm insulation More space is higher value! Iso3 is a lasting energy saving concept Unlike technical installations, Iso3 will not lose effect over the life cycle or demand service Higher sales value new requirements concerning energy declaration will enforce this effect
Iso3 construction friendly! Iso3 is a laminated product with high preciscion Traditional rectangular shape and no special details Light weight 47 mm thick, making mounting of gypsum boards easy High preciscion wood, more accurate than ordinary construction wood Iso3 gives less waste on the construcion site Deliveries in standard lenghts of 2,4m, 3,0m og 4,8m Can be pre-cut in exact stud lengths Special dried wood, with 14% moisture content Less moisture built into the construction and less shrinkage at later stages
