2 Men s Team Season Outlook Overall Outlook Returners 25 of letterwinners of 699 individual event points scored at the 2008 Patriot League Championship of individual event points scored at the 2008 EISL Championship Newcomers Navy welcomes 15 newcomers to its program Bill Roberts on the overall outlook Our team captain, Dan Warner, and the entire Class of 2009 have been at the heart of most of the success the team has experienced since their arrival. An even greater commitment by all of the seniors could produce a fabulous season to go out on. We have been preparing for the season for some time and are very eager to get to work. Navy Notes Navy will be attempting to win its sixth Patriot League crown in as many years this season... Navy s Class of 2009 enters the season having compiled a record during the regular season... the Mids are coming off of a season that ended with a 15-2 record, Navy s fourth consecutive season with at least 10 victories... the 15 victories on the campaign set a new Navy single-season record... Adam Meyer and Erik Hunter have combined to total five individual event Navy records during their careers... Meyer holds Navy standards in the 200 fly and both individual medley events, while Hunter has set the school s top times in the 500 and 1000 free events. Breaststroke Returners Pete Donahue 7th in both breast events at 08 PL Meet Matthew Harmon top 100 breast time is Nathan LeRoy 3rd in 200 breast and 6th in 100 breast at 08 PL Meet Adam Meyer three top-10 Navy times in the 200 breast Ari Molina 07 PL titlist in 100 breast; 6th in event at 08 EISL Meet Alex Oldenkamp has scored points in 100 breast at three career EISL Meets Jordan Spector has posted a 100m breast time of 1:00.08 Andrew Utama has finaled in both breast events at 07 & 08 PL Meets Newcomers Robert Putrino m Team Captain Dan Warner m Andrew Utama Bill Roberts on the Breaststroke With the graduation of Mike Lowhorn, Kevin Kysiak and Chris Jenkins, new names are expected to move into a leadership role within this event. There are several capable people who can match what the guys from the Class of 2008 accomplished during their first years at Navy. Breaststroke Notes Navy had four championship finalists in the 100 breast and three in the 200 breast at last year s Patriot League Meet, with each of those finalists returning this year... Andrew Utama, Nathan LeRoy and Pete Donahue all finaled in both breaststroke events at the meet... Ari Molina placed sixth in the 200 breast and 20th in the 200 breast at the EISL Championship... Alex Oldenkamp scored points in the 100 breast event at both championship meets. Linn Drew Mays Bill Roberts on the Backstroke The numbers and ability are present for us to have a strong year in the backstroke events. To be competitive, we will need to focus on our underwater work as times have dropped over the past few years in this event. Backstroke Notes Andrew Hetzner recorded the best 100 back time for Navy last year, while Ryan Ward and Billy Vey each posted the best 200 back clocking on the squad... in addition to Ward s first and second-place showings in the two backstroke events at the Patriot League Meet, Hetzner scored points in both events at the EISL Meet and Vey placed second and 12th in the 200 back at the Patriot League and EISL Championship Meets, respectively. We return a strong group of guys who can train and race the fly events. Also, this is arguably our strongest event within the Class of Butterfly Notes Andrew Hetzner posted Navy s top 100 fly time last year, with Adam Meyer setting a Navy and Patriot League record in the 200 fly time... a total of four Mids scored points in the 200 fly at last year s EISL Meet (Meyer, 5th; Jesse Cohen, 12th; Patrick Veltman, 17th; James Lascara, 22nd), with all four returning this year... that foursome is in addition to the strong showing in the event by Hetzner (first) and Ryan Ward (12th) at the Patriot League Meet. 28

Between experience and youth along with consistent work, we should be competitive each week in the sprint and relay events. Sprint Notes In addition to Alex Oldenkamp winning the Patriot League title in both sprint free events last year, Alex Buck placed second in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free... Nathan Durham also finaled in both sprint free events at the championship... Oldenkamp would go on to place ninth in the 50 free and 11th in the 100 free at the EISL Championship. Meyer finished second in the 400 IM at the 2008 EISL Meet, with Patrick Veltman placing eighth in the event... Billy Vey won the at the 2007 Patriot League Meet and then won the 400 IM at the 08 championship. Aaron Aiken, Nathan Durham, Alex Buck and J.J. Helms lead an energetic group of racers. This event also can be our most improved event for this year. We have a young group of guys who were good in Our newcomers to the stroke have good backgrounds and will bring valuable depth. Middle/Long Distance Notes The 2008 Patriot League Championship saw Nathan Durham place second and Alex Buck fourth in the 200 free, J.J. Helms finish in fourth place and Andrew Hetzner sixth in the 500 free, while Dan Warner and Helms placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 1650 free... Erik Hunter s time of 15:29.86 in the 1650 free at the EISL Meet (seventh place) set a new Patriot League record and was just four seconds shy of the 16-year old Navy record... Hunter did set a new Navy record in the 500 free at the EISL Championship. Diving Returners Jon Galinski 08 PL Champion on both boards Olaf Olson 08 EISL Co-Diver of the Year Newcomers Tanner Bosch Ben Nicholas Randy Perkins m Erik Hunter Joe Suriano on the Divers m Jon Galinski Our men's team is talanted and deep. Jon Galinski and Olaf Olson will be tough to beat. Jon spins and twists better than any other diver in Navy history. He has a big list of difficult dives from one- and three-meter springboards and the ten-meter platform. He came extremely close to qualifying for the NCAA Championship on platform last year. Olaf Olson could be our top springboard diver this year. Mechanically is the finest diver on the team and is capable of scoring big on all of his dives. Does not have a weakness. Great competitor, who nearly qualified for the NCAA's on springboard as a freshman. A very exciting diver to watch. Diving Notes Both Jon Galinski and Olaf Olson have the potential to qualify for the 2009 NCAA Championship... Navy has not sent a pair of divers to the national meet since Galinski will be attempting to repeat as the Patriot League Champion on both boards this spring... Olson placed second behind Galinski on both boards at the meet by 21 points on the one meter and five-hundredths of a point on the three meter... Olson would go on to place second on the one meter and fourth on the three meter at the EISL Championship. 29
