The Moon Konsert for to fioliner og orkester etter en Manga av Lin Ying av Martin Romberg
1. Prosjektbeskrivelse The Moon er et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom norske og kinesiske kunstnere som tar sikte på å bli realisert i Kina og Norge i 2010. Prosjektet går ut på en 25 minutters musikalsk performance med fullt live symfoniorkester, to fiolinsolister, og en animasjonsvideo projisert på scene. Bakgrunnshistorien og konseptet vil bli spunnet rundt den kinesiske Mangaen (tegneserie) The Moon, som er skapt av en av de ledende kvinelige tegneserieskaperne i Kina i dag, Lin Ying. Boken vil bli omvandlet til en still image animasjonsfilm, som vil animeres etter Martin Romberg s musikk, inspirert av tegneserien. Dobbeltfiolinkonserten vil bli skrevet spesielt for de to norsk-kinesiske søstrene Sara og Catharina Chen, og er et unikt forsøk fra en norsk komponist å forvandle en asiatisk tegneserie til symfonisk musikk. 2. Utførelse Musikkutførelse av prosjektet the Moon planlegges nå i flere etapper i Norge og Kina. Disse er: 1) Oppførelse ved Kinesisk kulturfestival i Oslo, september 2010. I samarbeid med Kringkastningsorkesteret, eller Barratt Dues Ungdomsorkester. Referanse fra KORK s programkomité er Trond Magne Brekka. KORK behandler aktuelt prosjektet. 2) Oppførelse i Shanghai høst 2010, med Shanghai Symfoniorkester eller Shanghai konservatoriets symfoniorkester, mulig forbindelse til Expo 2010. 3) Oppførelser sen høst 2010 i Beijing og Guangzhou, Kina, med ungdomssymfoniorkestre i de respektive byer. Både fremførelsesaktører, solister, komponist og bakgrunnshistorie inkluderer en vinkling mot og direkte involvering av barn og unge. Fremføring i Shanghai planlegges i samarbeid med Øyvind Aamots og Rolf Erik Nystrøms store prosjekt innenfor Expo 2010, Cosmic Wind. De tekniske elementene er: 3. Biografier Martin Romberg was born in Oslo in 1978. He studied composition with Michael Jarrell and film music with Klaus Peter Sattler at the University of Music in Vienna, Austria. His works have been performed by The Tiroler Ensemble für neue Musik, Nouvelle Cuisine, Pro Brass, Pro Arte Orchestra, Niederösterreichische Tonkünstler, The Astana Symphony Orchestra, The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, The Deutsche Filmorchester Babelsberg, Orchestre National de Montpellier and Akademische Orchestervereinigung Göttingen, among others. In the 2010/2011 season, he has concerts with Orchestre National de Montpellier, and the Kazakh State Opera in Astana. As a film composer Romberg has written music for Faruk Lasaki s Changing Faces (Directors Night in Cannes 2008) and for short films such as Roland Zumbühl s Sterntaler, Marcus Beck s Ankerwerfen, and Mikkel Blaaberg Poulsen s Lille Løgn, which in 2007 was nominated for the Robert and Best Danish short fiction on the AIFF festival, as well as for documentaries such as Todsünde Neid for the Austrian television station ORF. The music for the French animation film Haoma was recorded live with Orchestre National de Montpellier in 2008. In 2007 he won the composer competition De Unges Konsert as well as one of two prizes from The Paul Woitschach Foundation for Symphonic Entertainment Music. After extensive travels in India and the Far East, he now lives and works as a full time composer in Paris, France. He is interested mainly in the field of fantasy art. His last orchestral works, a saxophone concert, which was based on the Irish legend of the bard Taliesin, and Quendi, which is a symphonic poem inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien s Silmarillion, are examples of orchestral fantasy music. Romberg was in 2008 granted full scholarship from the state fund for popular composers. His concerto for saxophone and orchestra, The Tale of Taliesin, will be published by the French editor Billaudot in autumn 2010. Sara Chen was born in Oslo in Oct 1990. She is student of Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, a leading institution in Norway. She began to play the violin and piano at the age of five and two years later she had her first performance as a soloist with Bærums Symphony orchestra. Sara has studied with Alf Richard Kraggerud (1998 2005) and study with Stephan Barratt-Due since 2005. Sara has had master class with wellknown violinists, like Henning Kraggrud, Prof. Camilla Wiiks, Aaron Rosand, Eduard Schmieder, Marius Fuks, Detlef Hahn, Stephen Shipps, and Vamos... Catharina Chen Born in Oslo, Norway in 1985, Catharina began studying violin at the age of 5. A Graduate of Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, a leading institution in Norway, where she studied with Alf Richard Kraggerud and Stephan Barratt-Due. She has the Artist Diploma and Master program with renowned Professor Eduard Schmieder at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas and Temple University in Philadelphia. Since the age of eight, she has soloed with all major orchestras in Norway, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Tromso Symphony Orchestra and Oslo Camerata. Catharina is the recipient of numerous awards, and the youngest musician in Norway ever to be awarded the highly respected and prestigious Oslo City Artist Prize in 2004. Others include Grand Prize winner of the Gnessin International Violin Competition in Moscow in 2003, including the Best Artistic Performance etc. 4
Catharina s status as one of Norway s most promising young classical musicians (a 1 st prize winner in consecutive national violin competitions in Norway) has earned her several major awards including The Norwegian Music Publishers Union Prize of Honour (2002), and the Karoline Prize (2003). As a participant in different international arts festivals she has given solo and chamber concerts in Norway, Italy, China, Malaysia, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Brazil, Slovenia, New Mexico and South Africa. Highlights of 2005-06 seasons included solo appearances with Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in their new Oriental Concert Hall in China, and with Beverly Hills Symphony Orchestra and Dallas Symphony Orchestra in the USA. During 2007-2009 seasons Catharina performed numerous solo recitals in Pennsylvania, California, Texas, and New York. She has performed on the stages of Mozarteum Grosse Hall and Schloss Mirabell in Salzburg, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kimmel Center Perelman Hall in Philadelphia, Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and invited as solo recitalist to concert series in New York and California. June 2009, Catharina won the prestige Intro Classic prize from Rikskonsertene in Norway. Lin Ying The Shanghai-based author of the manhua, Lin Ying, has produced numerous cartoons and illustrations since her debut in 1997. In 2000 she won the Lion King award from the Cartoon King magazine. 5
