The Norwegian assessment and grading system uses the letter grades A-F, in which A denotes the best grade and F denotes failed. Grades can also be given as: passed / not passed or approved / not approved. Introduction The one year programme in Human Resource Management at the University of Nordland is a study programme in human resources management enabling people from the business and public sectors to improve their competence and skills in management and personnel functions. General description and profile of the programme The job market today does not just involve the number of jobs available; it also concerns the quality of jobs. In times of rapid change in both the private and public sectors, developing jobs presents major challenges. Personnel policy can therefore prove crucial for the maintenance of jobs and opportunities in order to retain the skilled and educated workforce.
2 Learning outcomes The purpose of this study program is to give students a basic understanding and knowledge of personnel management and human resource development in a work place in constant change. 3 Course evaluation: The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university s quality assurance system. Course contents: The course includes the following fields of study: personnel administration, human resource development and restructuring working life. General lectures and more specialised lectures on topics such as learning, recruitment, performance appraisal, ethics in the workplace, internationalisation and ethnic diversity at the workplace. Learning outcomes: The purpose of this course is to give students a basic understanding of personnel management, skills development and restructuring of organisations. Students will on successful completion of the course be able to: demonstrate knowledge of personnel management development and application of modern organisations in change understand the most relevant principles and practices in order to promote learning and resource development analyse and evaluate different methods in the recruitment process understand and explain how a community in change influences the practical human resource management Especially recommended elective courses: Offered as a free-standing course: Yes. The course covers such topics as leader roles, motivation, stress, work environment, "new" working life, restructuring amongst others. Learning outcomes: The purpose of this course is to give students a basic understanding and knowledge of organizational psychology, personnel management, resource development and restructuring of organizations. Course contents: The topic for the assignment is chosen from one of the subjects covered by OR213S Personnel Management, Competence Development and Organizational Change or OR214S Organisational Psychology and Human Resource Management. The assignment should preferably be answered by groups of 2-3 students but it is also possible to write an individual assignment. Learning outcomes: The purpose of the assignment is to give students an opportunity to specialize academically and to gain practical knowledge either through their own empirical research or through theoretical work. Students also gain methodological knowledge in order to conduct research and development in their own organization. Students should on successful completion of the course be able to: show that they can conduct empirical studies apply relevant theories to analyze the empirical findings learn how to carry out research and development in organizations Especially recommended elective courses: Offered as a free-standing course: Yes. Mode of delivery: Teaching will be based on one intensive teaching session. All students will be offered four voluntary tutorials in either groups or individually. Relevant work experience in human resources management can compensate for the lack of higher education (qualifications). Recommended previous knowledge: 1-2 years of university studies or at least 5 years experience of working life. Mode of delivery: Teaching will be based on intensive teaching sessions. Learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures. A voluntary test exam is organized at the end of the semester, and is given individual feedback. Students are strongly encouraged to attend this.
