1 BURZUM BELUS Byelobog Productions BYE år har gått siden forrige album, og BURZUM er tilbake. En hel metal-verden har ventet i spenning på hva som kommer, og det som leveres er helt magisk bra. Et gitarbasert album som best kan sammenlignes med tidlige BURZUMklassikere. Nærmere bestemt lydbildet fra banebrytende Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (1994) og atmosfæriske Filosofem (1996), minus mesteparten av deres mer ambiente partier. Belus er oppkalt etter det latinske navnet for Balder, den norrøne guden for rettferdighet og lys, men det vi får er selvfølgelig mørk, beinhard black metal. BURZUM leverer kanskje sitt beste album til dags dato, og Belus, som er innspilt i Grieghallen, vil garantert stå igjen som en klassiker. A suberb example of how good the music behind the infamy actually is. Bandet groover mer enn noensinne, og låtene her er akkurat så sexy, skitne, elektriske og pulserende som man kunne ønske. BTDT er akkurat den perfekte cocktail av JESUS & MARY CHAIN, VELVET UNDERGROUND, STOOGES, SPIRITUALIZED og PRIMAL SCREAM vi vil ha, helt enkelt! 2 MOTO BOY LOST IN THE CALL Songs I Wish I Had Written SIWIHW MOTO BOY gjorde nettopp en strålende figur under by:larm med en musikk som kan beskrives slik en entusiastisk publikummer gjorde: Dette er det JEFF BUCKLEY ville lått som dersom han hadde hatt THE SMITHS JOHNNY MARR som bestekompis og begge var like håpløst forelsket i Twin Peaks egen Audrey Horne. Det siste var vi vel alle, men han hadde mye rett, da ANGELO BADALAMENTIs udødelige musikk utvilsomt har satt sitt preg på MOTO BOYs romantiske lydbilde, mens låtene strukturelt kan høres ut som THE SMITHS på lavgir. En aldeles nydelig plate er det uansett, og den fortjener et stort publikum. BLOOD RED SHOES FIRE LIKE THIS V2/Cooperative VVR BLOOD RED SHOES overgår seg selv med albumet Fire Like This. Brighton-duoen har vært i studio med MIKE CROSSEY (ARCTIC MONKEYS, THE ENEMY, FOALS m.fl.) med målsetningen å få en produksjon like ekte og rå som på NIRVANA-klassikeren In Utero. I tillegg har bandet lånt øre til mye annet 90-tallsnacks som PIXIES, FUGAZI og SONIC YOUTH, men låtmaterialet er så sterkt at de ikke låter som kopier av noen! Dette selvtitulerte debutalbumet er en herlig blanding av alt de har gjort tidligere; bland de tragikomiske folk-fortellingene til Jeffrey Lewis, med Kimya Dawsons vennlige rop om tapperhet, multi-instrumenteringen til Karl Blau, Jack Lewis og Anders Griffen, og resultatet er et album som er i stand til å være både vittig og ømt, sårbart og trygt - alt samtidig. 3 RICHMOND FONTAINE POSTCARDS FROM PORTLAND: LIVE AT DANTES Décor DECOR Limitert (2000 eksemplarer) konsertalbum. Albumet ble spilt inn i RICHMOND FONTAINEs hjemby, Portland, i desember i fjor og inneholder hovedsakelig låter fra det nyeste albumet We Used to Think The Freeway Sounded Like a River og det forrige Thirteen Cities. Dette er det første livealbumet fra bandet, og utgivelsen kommer i en gatefold, slimline digipack. Det vil ikke bli trykket opp på nytt så her er det bare å handle inn mens det fortsatt finnes. THE KISSAWAY TRAIL SLEEP MOUNTAIN Bella Union BELLA 216JC Danmarks beste band? Denne Odense-kvintetten har turnert med EDITORS, og dette albumet er produsert av PETER KATIS (INTERPOL, TWILIGHT SAD, THE NATIONAL), og begge deler har virket inn på bandets ikke så rent lite FLAMING LIPS/ARCADE FIRE-inspirerte musikk. Drømmende, varmt, og akkurat passe svevende og pompøst. [This album] explodes with warm, human, rousing, melodic but slightly off-kilter rock 4/5 THE TIMES ROB SWIFT THE ARCHITECT Ipecac IPC Da skjer endelig ting på Ipecac igjen, etter at herr Patton var travel opptatt med FAITH NO MORE-reunion i fjor. ROB SWIFT, kjent fra PEEPING TOM og GENERAL PATTON VS THE EXECUTIONERS, tar oss med på en utfordrende og spennende reise i hip-hop ved bruk av influenser fra klassisk musikk. ALCOHOLIC FAITH MISSION LET THIS BE THE LAST NIGHT WE CARE PonyRec PONY Mindre enn et år etter kritiske kritikerroste utgivelsen av 421 Wythe Avenue er det danske indiekollektivet ALCOHOLIC Faith Mission klare med oppfølgeren Let This Be The Last Night We Care. Albumet fortsetter der 421 forlot oss. Fremdeles med intensiteten man kjenner fra band som Arcade Fire og Broken Social Scene blandet med mykere melodier fra acts som Bon Iver og Iron & Wine. III

PORTER WAGONER THE RUBBER ROOM - The Haunting Poetic Songs of Porter Wagoner Omni OMNI Fantastisk samleplate med PORTER WAGONER, en ofte misforstått artist. Syngende på låter om topper og daler i det menneskelige sinnet iført sin lilla Nudie-dress, har han skapt en av de merkeligste katalogene av alle countryartister, og muligens av noen populærmusikkutøver. I tvil? Sjekk ut denne skallesprekkende og hjerteknusende samlingen. Låter som den om den plagede sjelen George Leroy Chickashea, the meanest man that ever lived, det desperate klageropet som er Lonely Coming Down, og det sydende såret Fairchild. Likevel blant disse menneskelige togvrakene er det juveler av brennende patos og dyp åndelighet som Moments of Meditation og Little Boy s Prayer. DOLLY PARTON bidrar også må vite 4.5/5 ALLMUSIC BRUCE HAACK THE ELECTRIC LUCIFER Omni OMNI Bruce Haacks The Electric Lucifer er med rette regnet som et av høydepunktene blant det 20. århundrets elektroniske musikk. Opprinnelig gitt ut i 1970 er det et album unikt både i unnfangelse og realisering. Et utpreget lyttevennlig stykke arbeid der pop-psykedelia og Moog-lyder samles rundt Haacks sentrale, metafysiske begrep Powerlove, en kraft så sterk at det kunne ende kriger og forene menneskeheten. Kritikerrost da det opprinnelige kom ut (et av Rolling Stones favorittalbum i 1970) har ikke vært kommersielt tilgjengelig på over tre tiår, men her er The Electric Lucifer for første gang på! Remastret og restaurert fra de opprinnelige mastertapene som nylig ble oppdaget i Columbias hvelv. Inneholder en rekke bonusspor. 4.5/5 ALLMUSIC NORMA JEAN I Guess That Comes From Being Poor / Body And Mind Omni OMNI NORMA JEAN var PORTER WAGONERs scenepartner før DOLLY PARTON tok over rollen og gjorde den sin egen. Mange så på henne som en Dolly-kloning, men det de fleste var ikke klar over at Norma Jean var Dolly før Dolly ble Dolly, ikke bare som Porters duett- og turnépartner, men også ifht. stil og innhold innspillingsmessig. Kjærlig remastret fra de originale RCA Victor-tapene presenterer Omni her, for første gang på, hele I Guess That Comes From Being Poor (1972), og også høydepunkter fra albumene Body and Mind (1968) og Another Man Loved Me Last Night (1970). 30 spor i alt! They have now played a total of 5 shows. Kyle sings and plays lead guitar. The songs are mostly his, but the band arranges and finishes them together. As a songwriter of considerable standing, Dan has not subsumed his uniquely recognisable touch in an orgy of technical bliss although, there is plenty of euphoria in the musical alchemy on offer. From Dan s perspective, he says, The most important thing for me with this record was finding my own sonic vocabulary. That s why I m proud of this record. Swim is full of brightly textured, rapturous gems that gleam with astonishing production and then wrenches at your heart with soulful, thoughtful reveries on the passing of time, family history and the breakdown of relationships. There are songs about growing old in a relationship, about divorce and loneliness in old age but the lyrics are generally pretty abstract sketches of what s going on in the situation in my head. The Radio Department s Clining to a scheme is without doubt this year s most eagerly anticipated Swedish indie pop album. It s been four long years, but a simple press on Play and you ll know it s been worth every second. Clinging to a scheme combines the best components from their previous albums Lesser matters and Pet grief with soul guitars, P-funk, cut/paste-beats and 70 s futuristic orchestra. Breathtaking! The Radio Dept. arrived with their album Lesser matters in 2003 which is commonly referred to as the most important Swedish indie pop album of the 21st century. It was embraced by press and fans all over the world. They had no less than two Single of the week in the NME and it, not surprisingly, ended up Top10 on the NME s Album of the year -list. In 2006 Sophia Coppola chose to feature three of their songs in the film Marie Antoinette that further helped them to achieve worldwide recognition and the same year the chart-topping and critically acclaimed album Pet grief was released. MARKS SOCIAL LOVE IT TO LIFE SideOneDummy SD 1415 / SD / /LP Burning The Bowery All The Way From Moscow Disco Ghetto The Archer St. Marks Sunset Lowlife In A Highrise Burn The Bridge Revelations Black Boombox Lonely At Heart After three critically acclaimed solo records, dozens of world tours and TV appearances, Jesse Malin found himself back in New York City questioning his next move. From his days fronting seminal hardcore trio Heart Attack and glam punks D Generation, then seven years on the road as a solo artist, Malin had cultivated a devout fan base. He d shared stages with everyone from The White Stripes to Counting Crows, The Hold Steady to Lucinda Williams, but felt like he was losing the plot. Malin contemplated going back to school, becoming a standup comedian or a Las Vegas wedding DJ, and even started work on a documentary film about DC hardcore Rastafarians The Bad Brains. For over a year he didn t play or record. When asked by a Hollywood screenwriter to pen songs for a film about author J.D. Salinger, Malin a fan of Catcher in the Rye and other Salinger works traveled to Cornish, NH hoping to speak to the famous recluse. In typical punk-rock fashion, instead of getting the interview, Malin landed at the local precinct for trespassing and was released only after the cops watched his video duet with Bruce Springsteen for Broken Radio on YouTube and were convinced he was just a writer doing research. Though he never met Salinger (who passed away this past January), Malin made the most of the experience by writing The Archer and Lonely at Heart two songs that would make him want to work again and become the basis for his new album. Over the summer of 2009, in the basement of Avenue A watering hole Hi-Fi, the songs came forth. Malin, with impresario Don DiLego, drummer Randy Schrager, guitarist Matt Hogan, and bassist/dj Tommy USA, worked with his newly formed band to bash out an album s worth of gritty anthems, and The St. Marks Social was born. A solid band, but one with an open door to Malin s community of musician friends - longtime partner in crime Ryan Adams, pop singer Mandy Moore, fellow label mate Brian Fallon, and former bandmates from D Generation Howie Pyro and Danny Sage - the Social is a group effort to keep the P.M.A. Says Malin, To me, rock n roll is an exorcism that begins every night when the sun goes down, the music starts playing, and the spirits start flowing. It helps to say things in public over dirty microphones. It s a way to spit out the poison. When Jesse met producer Ted Hutt (Lucero, Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem) one drunken night at a local bar, their talk of making a record fast, loose, and raw, was the beginning of Hutt s quest to create a record that would encompass Malin s roots and evolution from hardcore thrasher to punk/folk singer-songwriter. The album s basic tracks were laid in three days at Greenpoint, Brooklyn s Mission Studios, and the rest at Sonic Youth s Think Tank Studios in Hoboken, NJ.
