Date of approval As a minimum applicants need to have a Higher Education Entrance Qualification from their home countries and certified language requirements in English. A list of the requirements for the Higher Education Entrance Qualification in Norway can be found on the web site from the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT). For language requirements we refer to NOKUT s GSU-list. For students coming from not English speaking countries usually also an English language test is required. 4 1.1 Introduction The bachelor of Rock n Roll Entrepreneurs is designed to enable musicians and others with an interest in working in the field of music business and similar creative occupations, to establish and run their own businesses. The curriculum includes subjects concerning economics, marketing, law and management, combined with a hands-on approach to entrepreneurship, which also will prepare the students for managerial employment in the private or public services. Through the programme the students will work on inter- and multidisciplinary cases, with an indepth orientation towards their own field of interest. A key-point is the establishment and management of real student-owned businesses from the 4 th semester and throughout the programme. The students will be main participants in the design of their individual education. This requires a high level of personal initiative and involvement, which is assumed throughout the programme, to ensure the students full benefit. The Rock n Roll Entrepreneurs programme leaves 30 ECTS to elective subjects, allowing the students to specialize within the field of their choice. This, in addition to the bachelor assignment of 15 ECTS, will determine the entrance to master programmes, at Finnmark University College and elsewhere. 1.2 Learning Outcomes Knowledge The candidate has knowledge of the various operations in the field of music business and related fields of work. Methods applied will vary, and include lectures, workshops, written and oral presentations, log/journal process-reflexion and evaluation, in particular constructive evaluation of one s own and co-students written, oral and practical presentations, implementations and accomplishments. As the programme is designed to meet the needs of various professions in the music business and related fields of work, the obligatory theory courses provide a basic knowledge and understanding related to business, management and marketing in general. For the last year of the programme the student may chose elective subjects from the Finnmark University College s on-campus or on-line catalogue. If the student wishes to choose elective

7 subjects from other institutions catalogues; national or international, he or she may do so in dialogue with his or her personal teaching supervisor. Such requests must be reported at the latest by the end of 1 st year: 2 nd semester, to ensure the validity of the ECTS s of choice. 1.4 Practice In the obligatory subjects GoBusiness the students will learn how to establish an enterprise, and further on, from semester 3 actually establish an enterprise of their own. The students will be assigned to a personal teaching supervisor on campus. GoLive is a series of practical projects, based upon the learning theories of Learning by Developing 3. The students level of involvement and responsibility will increase by each project as the students learn how to employ the method as a tool for learning and developing. A key-point to GoLive is that the students themselves will need to consider who they would like to mentor them through the different projects, and further on sign a contract with their mentors. The mentors are preferably chosen from the professional life, and need not be associated with the University College. The students personal teaching supervisors will assist the students in matters concerning potential mentors. 1.5 Other Points that may concern the Completion of the Programme of Study The programme will, as far as possible, strive to meet any need for flexibility concerning the student s off-campus projects related to their enterprise. To meet such needs it is essential that the students on their hand meet the University College s attendance requirements, and other given requirement in each subject, and provide sufficient information to their personal teaching supervisor, reasonable time ahead. 1.6 Evaluation and Quality Assurance For the years , the programme will be subject of constant evaluation and adjustments may occur if necessary. In addition, the programme of study will be evaluated in accordance with the University College s routines for quality assurance. 3 Learning by Developing (LbD) is an innovative operating model, which requires students to undertake projects rooted in the world of work aiming to produce new practices, the progress of which requires collaboration between teachers, students and workplace experts. LbD may also be described as a learning vehicle for the development of two sets of competences. The first being generic such as work/life knowledge and skills and the second being subject specific competences. LbD also contributes to regional development through the student interaction on projects and especially through the University playing a strong role in creating international links. Much effort is expended in ensuring local, regional and international ties. (Laurea University, Helsinki, 2008)

Purpose The student must have participated the concept of Business Venture (Studentbedrift) as described from the Norwegian Young Enterprise (Ungt entreprenørskap- UE): Develop a business concept in groups of 3-5 students, register and start up a business, get startup capital (up to NOK ,-), develop a business plan and annual report, operation and production, administration, accounting, sales, marketing, personal management and in the end close down the student venture. 3. Prerequisites and target groups Requires general study competence or practice competence For students in Rock n Roll Entrepreneurs: Obligatory 1 st year. For students in BA Business and Administration, BA Tourism and hotel and BA Media: Alternative to bachelor s thesis. For all other students it is an optional course. 4. Expected learning i After finishing this subject the students are supposed to have learned: Knowledge: Have the necessary knowledge to make a business plan and know the main challenges in start up and running a business.

10 5. Social relevance of the subject? 6. Content Autumn: Skills: Able to develop and write a business plan and judge the business potential of a business concept described in a business plan. Able to establish a venture and find proper literature to supplement to own competence. General competence: By the experience form «Business venture» be able to go through with a real start up and also advice others who want to do likewise. New business start-ups are important for any country. This course contributes to students competence so they both can be able to start their own business and advice others. Research shows that such subjects make a difference in the tendency to establish own business. Registration on subject «Business Venture». Carry out Etablererkurs over 5 sessions of 2 days each. The focus is on general knowledge in developing a business concept and making the students own business plan. Important topics are: Developing a business idea Creativity Sales Marketing Budgeting During this period the Student venture is registered and the students make preparations for operating the business. In this process the contact with UEadministration is vital as well as the external contacts (mentors, researchers, firms etc.). Spring (and next Autumn): During the spring the business is developed further mostly by the students own effort. There are also some milestones to achieve such as the regional and national championships for «Student ventures». 7. Structure, scope and organization, including obligatory parts. Autumn: 5 sessions of 10 hours. Topic1: Marketing Topic2: Economy, accounting and budgeting Topic3: The business idea; Idea developing Topic4: The business plan Topic5: Sales and networking

11 8. Teaching methods, including use of digital medias. 9. Formative evaluation (work requirements, obligatory lessons etc.) All participants are assigned to an advisor to use during the course. The teaching will mostly take place during the autumn. Later there will be meetings in smaller groups in Gründerbua and 2-3 open seminars during the course period. All groups are assigned to an advisor who can give advice, and be a discussion partner. All groups must also find their own external mentor. Apart from planned sessions, group work, lectures and presentations the students are supposed to be mostly «self-going». Obligatory work requirements during the period: Autumn: Pass the examination of the Etablererkurs. Spring and even next autumn: Operate their own business and participate in seminars and championships if possible. Make at least 2 presentations of the business concept, the business plan and results. 10. Summative evaluation (formal evaluation for the testimony) During this period the advisor gives feedback on the activities and both written and oral presentations. The grade is set from 3 different criteria: A. (45%) Group evaluation: A map consisting of a report for the «Business venture» out of certain demands. Includes the complete business plan. B. (30%) Individual evaluation I: Oral presentation of the report and business plan and even knowledge in general business development. C. (25%) Individual evaluation II: The students activities in the process. Here is included: Presentations in different events such as seminars and competitions etc., Initiatives taken both internally and externally, Participation in meetings and advisories. Media profiling. Co-operations with external actors. 11. Marks Letter A F. E is the lowest passing grade. F is failure. 12. Practice Internationalization Open to international students. Purpose The main purpose is to learn more about how to run a business in the culture industry. The main case is the students own business, which he/she is supposed to establish during this course. 3. Prerequisites and target groups 1 st year of the Rock n Roll Entrepreneurs programme. Go Business II is obligatory simultaneously with Go Live III. 4. Expected learning ii Knowledge: Know about the most important challenges concerning the establishing and running of a business in the students branch of the culture industry. Know how to solve these challenges within an international setting. 5. Social relevance of the subject? Skills: Be able to establish and run a business within the culture industry. General competence: Have the confidence to bring both his/her own business to a success. Be able to advice other persons who want to succeed in that same business. New business start-ups are important for all countries. 6. Content The course is oriented towards practical development of the students own business in the culture industry. Some vital challenges in establishing and running the business will be covered, but mostly it is up to the student to find the right knowledge and make use of it in the developing

Summative evaluation (formal evaluation for the testimony) of their own business. The course is firmly linked to the course Go Live III, which is designed to put to life the business plan of Go Business II. Mostly individual studies, with a personal teaching assistant from FUC. Some lectures and seminars with experts in different fields connected to culture as business. There will be extended use of the digital medias and the platform (Fronter). Most lectures will be available on the Internet. Two obligatory work requirements, which need to be approved as passed, before the final evaluation can take place. These will be based in theory and/or practical work. Individual or teams of 2-3 students. The students must keep an up to date portfolio, which will need to be presented and approved as passed. This portfolio should include: The written obligatory work requirements (mentioned above) A general report describing what has been done during the course period, focusing on the most important challenges, and how they were solved. With reference to HiF s exams regulations, above requirements must be approved as passed in advance of: An oral presentation and individual hearing. 11. Marks Letter A F. The students may apply for participation among given projects, or be assigned to a specific project. In total the students are required to participate in two practical projects through the year. 3. Prerequisites and target groups 4. Expected learning outcome iii Open exclusively to 1 st years students registered in the Rock n Roll Entrepreneurs programme. Knowledge The candidate knows how to employ Learning by Developing as a tool for learning and development. The candidate understands the essentials of planning, managing, implementing and evaluating projects in the music business and related fields of work. Skills The candidate is able to employ co-operation in networks as means for learning and developing. 4 Learning by Developing (LbD) is an innovative operating model, which requires students to undertake projects rooted in the world of work aiming to produce new practices, the progress of which requires collaboration between teachers, students and workplace experts. LbD may also be described as a learning vehicle for the development of two sets of competences. The first being generic such as work/life knowledge and skills and the second being subject specific competences. LbD also contributes to regional development through the student interaction on projects and especially through the University playing a strong role in creating international links. Attendance is obligatory, but flexible solutions will be sought if necessary. The course will take use of a variety of different methods, with a main emphasis on Learning by Developing.
